5.0 out of 5 stars I Could Have Danced All Night, July 21, 2003
This review is from: Tap Dancing in Zen (Paperback)
What an awesome book Geri Larkin has written! I didn't want it to end. I could have "tap danced" all night!

A Presbyterian minister in the middle years of my life (I hope) who believes that Jesus is much "bigger" than the Christian church typically has "allowed" him to be, I find Geri Larkin's book to be an incredible midrash on "the big Jesus" and the gospel he proclaimed and lived. I often wonder if it is possible to live as a Christian in the world today without also embracing the teachings and practice of Buddhism. This book heightens my suspicion that it is not. If that surprises you, then you must read this book (as well as a few of the Thich Nhat Hanh-Daniel Berrigan conversations). The spirits of Jesus and Buddha are kindred spirits indeed!

Geri Larkin's candor, openness, and wonderful illustrative prowess makes reading this book a doorway into hope. My middle daughter died within the last year at the age of eighteen. No other book (and, uh, I am on a first-name basis with the amazon.com delivery man) I have read since Katy's death has made as much "sense" out of my suffering or filled me with such a renewed passion for living as this one.

"Give us this day our daily bread..." Geri Larkin's "Tap Dancing in Zen" was for me this day's manna, and I am grateful. I wholeheartedly commend it to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the beginners, March 20, 2002

This is my second time around with Geri Larkin. I was feeling a little lost about a year and a half ago. Found her book, Stumbling Towards Enlightnment ( I was drawn to the beautiful cover!), and I was hooked! This woman is light hearted, really funny, easy to read, and gives us novice "stumblers" a good look at the Buddhist life. She makes you feel as if you are right there, experincing the moments with her. Something, I feel, is the duty of a good author. Thru humor you will learn, and hopefully a little of this 'tap dancing' will change your life, as it did mine! If you are curious about Buddhism, or just need to escape your traditional ways of handling life-READ THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect timing, April 11, 2000
This review is from: Tap Dancing in Zen (Paperback)
I was having one of those guilt-ridden days -- work, family, friends, you name it -- I was certain I was letting everyone down. Rather than grab for the remote control to watch some mindless tv, I grabbed for Geri's book instead. What timing! I thought I would only thumb through a few pages, but two pages in and I knew I had to finish. I learned a lot about why I had gotten to my state of guilt in the first place and what I could do to get out of it. Thank you, Geri, for your personal, humorous, and yet very "serious" look at transforming as a way of living. The book will find it's way next to many of my colleagues, family members and friends remote controls for the next time they're having "one of those day."

I have been in love with "Stumbling..." for over a year now, and was sure Geri Larkin's second book could not possibly hold the same appeal....but I was mistaken. For me, her first book was an all encompassing reference for general wisdom, humor and compassion; one I reach for often. This book is different . I find it more refined and subtle. While she retains her sense of humor and her stories have me nodding yet again in recognition, Geri Larkin seems to have grown even more centered and confident on her path than before. I am grateful for her journey; I am shuffling along behind her...attempting toTap Dance!
