3.0 out of 5 stars So, this is what we danced/listened to in 1988???, April 24, 2005
This review is from: Tap (Audio CD)
After the passage of seventeen years, this soundtrack is mostly for fans that have an interest in music of the era than for those that happen, by chance, to remember the Gregory Hines film. The songs are a mixture of pop, R & B, and down-home blues, with a roster that includes Teena Marie, James "J.T." Taylor (former frontman for Kool and the Gang), Regina Belle, legendary Etta James, jazz great Stanley Clarke, and Hines himself.

The cuts are:

1. "Bad Boy" - Teena Marie
2. "All I Want is Forever" -James Taylor and Regina Belle
3. "Baby What You Want Me to Do" - Etta James
4. "Strong as Steel" - Gregory Abbott
5. "Forget the Girl" - Tony Terry
6. "Can't Escape the Rhythm" - Gregory Hines
7. "Lover's Intuition" - Amy Keys
8. "Somebody Like You" - Melissa Rowan
9. "Max's Theme (Instrumental)" - Stanley Clarke
10. "Free" - Gwen Guthrie

Personally, to me, the best cut is the last one, a song of social commentary and challenge, heavily influenced by tribal drums and featuring the Temple University Concert Choir under the direction of Rev. Timothy Wright.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where is "Sunny Side of the street"?, November 9, 2009
This review is from: Tap (Audio CD)
I was glad to get the soundtrack, but was sooo disappointed when Bunny Brigg's solo was left off the CD. That cut was one of the reasons I purchased the CD! To me, "Sunny side of the street" is almost a theme for the movie, sung by someone IN the movie. Beside that, I loved it!

4.0 out of 5 stars The best soundtrack ever, October 2, 2005
This review is from: Tap (Audio CD)
I actually was 9 thru 11 when I heard this be4 I seen the movie TAP or rightafter with the late Gregory Hines (RIP). All the songs are Amazing but the 1's I dug are Teena Marie's "Bad Boy", Gregory Hines' "Can't Stand the Rhythm", Stanley Clarke's "Max's Theme" (bad bass here! and really good sounds and techniques off the track). TAP will stand along as my favorite movie in history 'cuz that's when I got inspired to do music and stuff. I still have recorded on blank tape awhile back since '94 or '95. Still will purchase the orignal tape + the CD version ASAP. RIP to my man and favorite actor Gregory Hines for a wonderful job and a Great legacy he left us. A Must.
