Outstanding recipes that are simple and delicious.,

This review is from: Tapas (The Great Cookbooks Assortment) (Hardcover)
It is unfortunate this is no longer in print. Since we purchased it several years ago, it has become a one of our most used cookbooks. Besides great recipes, the photographs make you want to hop on the next plane to Spain.

Its ok but heavy on seafood or offal,
This review is from: Tapas (Global Gourmet) (Paperback)
I recieved this book expecting a bit different. This book firstly is small, much smaller than the other apple press books in this series so be aware of the dimensions when ordering! Secondly it is very heavy on seafood tapas and offal. So if you are expecting more westernised meat dishes you will be in for a shock to find liver, kidneys, sweebreads and blood sausage being used.I found the recipes for vegetable tapas to be the more interesting dishes, as some of the meat dishes (e.g. stuffed quails) seemed as intensive as having to prepare a main course. But only one chorizo tapas (that being pan fried slices) was a bit light on, as was only one tortilla. The seafood dishes are very nice, using mussels, scallops and prawns mainly, most sauteed and served with a dressing. Overall it is not too bad, however the recipe choices in the meat section could have been better. Also the size of the book and font make it very hard to read. So not bad (especially for veges and seafood) but ther are better books out there. |
