Renate Kirkpatrick has a background in a diverse range of creative arts and crafts, but is particularly well-known for her extensive knowledge of crochet forms, which she passes on to her students. She's the author of Crochet Techniques, Bring Colour to Crochet, Freeform Crochet and Beyond, and Textured Crochet Lace (all published by Sally Milner).
This is a nice book with 64 patterns to Tapestry Crochet to create squares with a 31 by 31 pattern and includes basic Tapestry Crochet instructions to get started! The book includes a page that shows the position of each square to make the full afghan shown on the cover. If you are not committed to making a specific sized square, these designs will work nicely.
Some of the designs of the squares are not as readily recognizable as I would have liked; possibly a bit too whimsical for me. Although, combined together in a full afghan, they will be nice together.
Unfortunately, for my purpose, the patterns do not fit on an 8" warm crocheted square for a children's charity. An 8" crocheted square is approximately 25-27 squares wide and 30-32 squares high and I was looking for smaller pictures; quicker to do and not to cover the entire square.
