Review
Count Theodore Berg is an escaped Hungarian revolutionary recuperating in Italy from an operation that may allow him to walk again, thanks to his brother Dr. Max von Berg. His nurse is Sister Julie, a young woman with an ability to take away pain with the touch of her hand, and an ability to provoke Theo into walking again. Theo has promised himself that once he is better he will go to Russia and rescue Maryka, the woman he loves. But thoughts of Julie taunt Theo, until he finds out she is Princess Julie Muromsky, a Russian princess and the niece of the man he has vowed to kill. Julie's interest in Theo goes beyond the fact that she wants to help him walk again. He is Max's brother, a man she loves, but can never have. When Theo finds out who she really is, she convinces him he must take her to Russia. For her, returning to Russia is an escape from the heartbreak that she suffers working with Max. But she doesn't know that Theo's plan is to kill her uncle, or that before the trip is over, Theo will make her forget her feelings for Max. Driven by guilt, Theo fights his attraction to Julie. He believes it is his fault Maryka was kidnapped and feels duty-bound to rescue her and marry her. Theo knows he shouldn't be taking Julie to Russia with him, especially since she doesn't know what his intentions are. But fate has bound them together and he cannot refuse her. Their journey is a dangerous one. If Theo is recognized he could be killed, and so could Julie. Traveling as an arms merchant and his wife, Theo and Julie must keep up their facade while ignoring the passion that they feel for each other. But the tumultuous era of war and violence in Europe is the backdrop for a love greater than anything either of them has ever known.Nina Beaumont is a dynamic writer!
