Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In connection with his The Five Minute Phobia Cure, Callahan has appeared on television with Regis Philbin, Tom Snyder and Leeza Gibbons, successfully working with patients suffering from all stripes of phobias. Now he makes the startling claim that psychological problems can be treated with a sequence of movements and taps on various body parts that correspond to meridians used in acupuncture. Backed by a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Syracuse University, Callahan theorizes that emotional distress corresponds to a "thought field" disturbance that can be corrected by simply balancing the field's energy. Nearly a third of the book is given over to physical formulas for dealing with specific ailments: phobias, addictions, trauma, anxiety, stress, fear, depression, pain, obsession. Replete with cases of immediate, permanent cures that sound nothing short of miraculous, Callahan mixes his scientific evidence with a confident, promotional toneAand preemptive explanations for instances when his trademarked technique (Thought Field Therapy) doesn't work. Illus. not seen by PW. Agent, Jane Dystel. (Jan. 15) Forecast: Promising "emotional problems eliminated in minutes" and claiming a success rate of 80%, this book is sure to arouse controversy among traditional therapists that may spur sales.

Review

I have seen miracles using Dr. Callahan's techniques. Isn't it time we stopped settling for anything less than miracles? -- Jack Canfield, Editor, Chicken Soup for the Soul series

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Therapy, Average Book, September 18, 2001

TFT (Thought Field Therapy) and it's children, EFT and BSFF, are AMAZING! It is simple, easy to learn and highly effective for most people. I can not recommend learning this therapy enough.

However, this book is just okay. Mr. Callahan obviously had to fill up a certain number of pages, so the redundancy on the algorithm pages is phenomenal (even though the same "9 gamut" process is incorporated in nearly every therapy, he repeats the wordy step-by-step instructions every time - adding about 50 pages to the book!) He is also very interested in selling people on taking his extremely expensive Voice Technology course (in the thousands of dollars). Every time he mentions VT, he follows with "a new and highly effective therapy" or something like that. Very distracting when he references VT every third page.

But no matter how I feel about the way the book was written, the information is invaluable. Which is why I gave the book 4 stars. I can not thank him enough for discovering this therapy - and I can not thank Gary Craig (founder of EFT) enough for introducing me to the concept.

5.0 out of 5 stars THANK YOU GOD FOR THIS BOOK TAPPING THE HEALER FROM WITHIN, July 24, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Tapping the Healer Within : Using Thought-Field Therapy to Instantly Conquer Your Fears, Anxieties, and Emotional Distress (Paperback)
THS AMAZING BOOK HAS CURED ME OF A DANGEROUS ADDICTION TO GAMBLING IN CASINOS (IN SAN DIEGO THERE ARE ABOUT NINETEEN CASINOS HERE ALONE) THE MONEY WASTED COULD HAVE TAKEN ME TO EUROPE AND BACK AND STILL PURCHASE A CONDO IN SARDINIA!!! I AM TRULY GRATEFUL TO DR. CALLAHAN AND HIS DISCOVERY OF TAPPING THESE ENERGY POINTS - IT WORKS! I HAVE MY LIFE BACK; MY FAMILY THANKS YOU TOO. ADDITIONALLY, THIS METHOD OF TAPPING AS DESCRIBED IN THIS BOOK ALSO REMOVED THE TRAUMA OF A RAPE ASSAULT WHICH HAPPENED OVER 30 YEARS AGO!! REGULAR VISITS TO A PSYCHOTHERAPIST ONLY MADE THE TRAUMA REAL AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN WITH NO RELIEF. THIS METHOD IS TRULY A LIFESAVER; WITHIN MINUTES THE TRAUMA WAS GONE! IT DID NOT CHANGE THE PAST AS IT HAPPENED--IT'S JUST NOT PAINFUL ANY MORE.

I AM A LAYPERSON AND A VERY GRATEFUL ONE AT THAT TO DR. CALLAHAN. THANK YOU SIR...YOU WERE TRULY GUIDED BY THE SUPREME BEING.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caution....must have an OPEN MIND to use properly, June 1, 2004

This review is from: Tapping the Healer Within : Using Thought-Field Therapy to Instantly Conquer Your Fears, Anxieties, and Emotional Distress (Paperback)
I find it terribly sad that so many have ego problems with using and understanding these techniques. They are simple, profound, and effective IF USED PROPERLY. Roger Callahan is the "godfather" of EFT, and Energy Medicine in general. Here he shares his exciting discoveries as a practical guide for self-help of a multitude of issues confronting the average human. One of the primary steps to using this effectively for yourself is to keep your mind steadily focused on the issue you are attempting to heal. Since most of us have trouble with this type of "one pointed" focus (our minds can bounce around at lightening speed!), we may have trouble getting results, and consider this a failure. It isn't!
As a suggestion to the person with the blushing problem...a focus on the "feeling" that comes before the actual blushing would most likely work. However, it sounds like this person has a lot of trouble with embarassment in general....and may need to work on a multitude of aspects before getting relief. I find it fascinating that the idea of tapping on the accupoints would cause such traumatic embarrassment! I think we need to lighten up....and perhaps deal with the phobia of "feeling like a fool". This is not a proctological exam here. As the old saying goes...let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater! Sometimes the spirit of playfullness works better than taking ourselves too seriously and making unrealistic demands of a technique. As a healing practioner who now uses these techniques regularly, I would say that less than 1 in 100 do not get results.I find that "operator error" is responsible with my clients. At times they forget something...and need to be corrected. Those who aren't happy with the results would do well to find a PERSON TO GUIDE THEM to make sure you are doing the technique properly.Let's consider that exercise can do more harm than good if not done properly. Should we stop exercizing because we once injured ourselves? One interesting side effect for my clients is that the healing can be SO COMPLETE they forget they ever had the problem in the first place! Apex effect! Interesting considering that the problem dominated their thinking 95% of the time prior to treatment.I have tried these techniques on myself, and was able to heal the following issues: poor self image, insomnia, tinnitus, childhood trauma, chronic fatigue, back pain due to injury, to name a few. My advice is DON'T KNOCK IT TILL YOU"VE TRIED IT....AND KNOW YOU"RE DOING IT RIGHT!
