VentureBeat: “…A deeper news reading experience than most competitors, in particular because I was able to easily combine news sources…the app also does a great job of recommending stories.”

Brothersoft: “Again, Taptu has taken advantage of the fact that it is a veteran in the field of mobile search. It is in the search aspects that it is able to dominate rival Flipboard”

5.0 out of 5 stars Why is this not as popular as Pulse? December 6, 2012
Verified Purchase
This is a great app. It's basically an RSS reader, but you can combine feeds, for example I have 9gag, collegehumor, and icanhazcheeseburger in 1 feed called Humor. You can color code the feeds, and I haven't seen a limit to the number total. I prefer it to Pulse, which I also like. The only drawback, and I think Pulse doesn't have this because it's limited to curated feeds, is if the RSS feed is one that gives you the first part of the post and you have to click through to get the entire post, you have to click through Taptu too. I have been using the web interface and it's not the same. The swiping and flicking of Taptu on a touchscreen is really the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than pulse on Kindle Fire November 20, 2011
Verified Purchase
Taptu is better than Pulse on the Kindle Fire. Integrates with Google Reader and provides better visuals of blogs that aren't picture oriented. Only complaint so far is that hyperlinks on blog posts aren't active unless you click through to the web version of the page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best News App Ever! Review From A Dedicated User August 2, 2012
Verified Purchase
Maybe it is just me, but Pulse is lacking on the Kindle Fire. This app more than makes me happy, bringing all my favorite news to my fingertips.

Taptu has changed my reason for using my Kindle Fire. After first use, I became addicted to this news app. Adding streams of gadgets, technology news, and slickdeals along with Amazon daily deals and Newegg deals, I became aware of all things Gadget and their prices.

Being able to arrange, combine and all-out personalize my streams of news has all but streamlined my news gathering experience. If you are searching for an eternal bond with an app from the Amazon market, one that will embed itself into your soul and forever alter your perception of reality, then you will not be disappointed with Taptu.

On another note, I adore this app, and sharing news is so simple in combination with pocket (formerly known as Read-it-later). If I am browsing my news streams on my Kindle and don't have time to finish an article, I just save it to my Pocket and open it later on my Desktop at home. Sharing it with friends is even simpler with a Twitter account or simply sharing the link to your Facebook Wall.

Lastly, I cannot live without Taptu. Seriously, honestly, truthfully the best news app available.

5.0 out of 5 stars I use this app way too much. January 26, 2012

After going back and forth with Pulse and Taptu. I stuck with Taptu. I like the option to customize each category. Plus, the ability to resize each panel is a plus for my blind eyes. The only thing that bothers me is their logo. That's the only thing that Pulse has on Taptu.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh January 21, 2013
Verified Purchase
Yes, this app is better than Pulse, but, for my purposes, it's not nearly as good as gReader. For instance, if you choose to hide "read" articles, you cannot choose to mark individual articles as "unread" if you want to come back to them later (and you don't use Instapaper). Still, sorting feeds into categories appeals to me, so maybe I'll keep it for awhile and see if I warm up to it. Who knows?

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it February 19, 2013

Coming from someone thats used both Pulse and Taptu for a while, my final verdict is; I like them both! I use Taptu on my Kindle HD because i find the Pulse version on Kindle to be behind in updates. But Taptu to be very lovely on a bigger screen, with unlimited amounts of sources, and the ability to merge like groups (or in my case groups of less important news). Design wise, Pulse and Taptu are very much similar. You can customize Taptus color schemes per news source, but for Pulse you can change the reading view from White background for day reading, and black for night. I prefer Pulses simplicity in this matter, where the color scheme of the app itself is dark with blue, as Taptus is associated with black and hot pink...not my fave.

Overall they are both very good news source pullers and RSS feed apps. I suggest just trying both and see which you like. (Have not tried Evernote, so no comparisons for that).

5.0 out of 5 stars Best aggregate news app! September 23, 2013
I've tried a few of the news aggregate apps, such as Currents, Pulse and Taptu. The top winner, in my humble opinion, is Taptu. Pulse became too bloated and difficult to use, find news, entertainment, used up too much resources on my computer. Currents is a good app, that has many magazines to choose from but has a tricky user interface, clicking and sliding back and forth giving you ample opportunity to mis-click or mis-touch the magazine. It's widget forces you to choose one magazine to have on the widget then opens the entire app, when sometimes you just want the highlights of the news.

Taptu, on the other hand, has a great widget that shows all the highlights of the news, not just one channel, more like a newspaper than magazine app or widget. The app itself shows all the top news stories under each topic, such as world news, home, entertainment and so on.

I would give Taptu 5 stars.
