I'm never without them, August 3, 2009
This review is from: TarGard Mini Filters - Bulk Economy Pack (100 Per Pack) (Health and Beauty)
I started using the TarGard mini disposables about 2 months ago and what a difference they've made. They do remove a lot of the tar, as you can see visibly in the filter chamber. They do not change the taste of your cigarette, and after getting used to them, you adjust your draw so your cigarettes taste the same. These are a great product and I highly recommend them if you are going to continue to smoke.
*note: I tried the larger targard filter with removeable parts and the metal filter is larger. My cigarette kept falling out of it, so I've gone back to the mini filters.

After coughing for years, but not that bad, it finally got very bad seemingly over night. I thought I had pneumonia. I seen a doctor and was told cig smoke was killing me and to stop. I had trouble breathing and felt like I was not getting enough air. I started wheezing at night and had trouble sleeping. I was coughing up constantly, tons of clear phlegm. I was really concerned and was afraid I had cancer. The chest x-ray I had confirmed the cigs were the problem and no cancer seen at that time. Every time I took a breath, I could feel the phlegm in my chest and the center of my chest had a knot in it.
I bought the tar guards and felt it was probably a waste of money. I used them on every cig I smoked and after a day, I could feel an improvement in my chest. After a week, I was like night and day. Felt 1000% better. I have been using them now for about 6 weeks. Again, I feel a huge difference. I smoke 2 packs a day.
Looking at what tar they collect thru the clear holder, it is amazing how much is there and it looks exactly like driveway sealer.
The only negative is that you have to draw much harder on a cigarette to get anything out of it. But compared to what I was feeling and suffering with before, a cheap price to pay for health. And I have not cut down smoking at all. And no change in flavor and I smoke Carlton Kings.
Realistically, the chances of me quitting is next to nil, but with tar guards, at least I can breath like normal and my sense of smell has also increased. I vote 5 star. The only thing I know that is better is quitting all together and if anyone has a better mouse trap, please let me know. RW

I bought 2 and contrary to what some other reviewers said I haven't found any defective ones.
The filters do capture Tar and don't seem to affect taste.
The reason for 3 stars is that I bought them to help me quit smoking but so far that part hasn't had a direct effect. It did get me paying attention to my smoking and I have realized that it has a lot to do with my behavior. Behavior that has developed over time and I suppose that it will take time to stop by breaking my behavioral habits one at a time. Here are a few examples. Smoke when I wake up, have coffee, after a meal, when I get in the car, when I take a break, while waiting, in the john etc. etc. etc.
With that said:
1) The product does what it claims and does capture Tar.
2) Doesn't affect taste.
3) None that I got were defective.
