Editorial Reviews

This two-LP set is an unusual Chuck Mangione record. Taken from a marathon live concert, the flaugelhornist is featured with a big band. Mangione performs such boppish numbers as "Things to Come," "'Round Midnight," and "Manteca" with guest Dizzy Gillespie; duets with Chick Corea on "My One and Only Love"; and stretches out on "All Blues." He also welcomes such old associates as his brother, keyboardist Gap Mangione, plus tenorman Sal Nistico and altoist Joe Romano. TRACK LISTING: 1) Tarantellas; 2) The XIth Commandment Suite; 3) Legend Of The One-Eyed Sailor; 4) Bellavia; 5) Hill Where The Lord Hides; 6) Lake Placid Fanfare; 7) Things To Come; 8) 'Round Midnight' 9) Manteca 10) My One and Only Love 11) All Blues

5.0 out of 5 stars Shall we dance?, October 3, 2008

This review is from: Tarantella (Vinyl)
Really good Chuck Mangione isn't hard to find on CD - much of his catalog is available on disc in one form or another. Some of it's remastered, much of it isn't, however. "Tarantella," on the other hand, is one LP that's just screaming to be picked up and cleaned up on CD - and for some reason, it's just sitting out there! Well, if you've heard the album, this record is arguably one of Mangione's most unique, and wonderful records. Named for the Italian folk dance, it's a celebration of life through wonderful music, jazz in its most uplifting form. These are recordings are ones that should be preserved, but more importantly, offered to the masses to be discovered and rediscovered by jazz and music fans, young and old.

Anyone at Hip-O, or any other label (A&M?), get your mits on the masters for this project and get it on disc!!! We'd love you for it!

Grazzi, Chuck, for making this album - maybe one day we'll get to load up our CD players with this great collection of amazing, beautiful jazz!
