Currently a full time hospitalist and part time run a perioperative clinic. This is the first pocket reference I've used actually using the current periop cv evaluation guidelines which utilizes the revised cardiac risk index/2007 ACC guidelines. Briefly skimming other areas also had nice, to-the-point medications/dosages for treatment options (secretions at the end of life, myxedema coma, and so on). Not bad for a '1st edition' Now where's the easy to use PDA version?

Dr. Esherick has organized an enormous amount of clinically relevant information in a concise resource that does indeed fit in a lab coat pocket. I am sure that this will improve quality of care as it brings together current clinical guidelines and evidence based medicine in a very usable, outline based format. I can't think of any common clinical problems that are not addressed in this book. A far cry from the spiral bound, heavy resource I used as a student. A perfect companion to the busy resident or attending physician.

This review is from: Tarascon Hospital Medicine Pocketbook (Paperback)
Dr. Esherick has come back better than ever after publishing his 2006 Tarascon Primary Care Pocketbook! This new little gem is jam-packed with useful information for medical attending physicians, residents and nursing staff. With the great addition of Critical Care topics this pocket-size reference is a must-have for the busy practitioner!

I am a newer intensive care RN . I picked this book up a few weeks ago. I use it a lot and have, on occasion, even sounded like I really knew what I was doing(:
My hospital has one unit for neuro/cardiac/medical ICU patients so I get a lot of different types of cases. Gives me a quick overview of my patient's diagnoses and what to expect in terms of therapy/intervention. It is concise and so far has been very thorough.....exactly what I need when time is of the essence. Written for MDs/Residents I think, but definitely good for RNs too.

I have recently made the transition into hospital medicine. This book is excellent. I do not believe there is a better book that will get you through the day. Almost every major issue that is encountered in a hospital practice is discussed. There is not much fluff, it tells you what you need to know.

Dr. Esherick has definitely put many hours in this handy pocketbook. I work in the ICU as a respiratory therapist and have used this book many times when I need to reference a disease, disorder, review mechanical ventilation to whats involved in treating a snake bite! Page after page has been well thought out and put together factually and extremely easy to navigate! Well worth buying for any healthcare practitioner working in the critical care setting.
