Outstanding pocketbook for a Hospital Phyiscian, March 18, 2009
This review is from: Tarascon Internal Medicine & Critical Care Pocketbook (Whinshall, Tarascon Internal Medicine & Critical Care) (Paperback)
I've used this handbook every day for almost a year now, and i have recommended it to my collegues. I work in a 800 bed-hospital for a population of more than a million chileans, in the internal Medicine Station and in the E.R.
A thorough job, this little book contains algorithms, differential diagnosis charts, updated scores, formulas and tips, quite everything you need to have at hand.
Noticeable is that for every table or fact stated, there is the reference in the medical literature given, so you can study it.
I love the last section, "Groovy Drugs", where you can check the recommended dosage, posology, how to build the infusion, interactions, etc. for all those 'obscure' drugs (i.e. Amiodarone, Levophed, Labetalol, and many more).
The book itself is simply built, just paper, as the next one. Take care of it and it will take care of you (haven't lost any page 'till now; wanted to say it because of the other review).
"It's not how much you know, it's how fast you can find the answer". Clever sentence. Doesn't mean we may stop studying, but it definitely helps having my Tarascon around.
Let me recommend this book to you, you won't regret it. For 33 dollars I got it in my mail in 2 weeks, in Chile (bought it again as a present).

Excellent Handbook, July 21, 2011
This review is from: Tarascon Internal Medicine & Critical Care Pocketbook (Whinshall, Tarascon Internal Medicine & Critical Care) (Paperback)
The primary competitor for this handbook is pocket medicine, which is an excellent resource for interns. Tarascon's is the pocket reference for the medical resident or a practicing MD. It's much lighter and provides plenty of information you need to find quickly. If I want to sit down and research a topic further then I would go to UpToDate.
