5.0 out of 5 stars Don't show up for your shift without it.
10+ years out of training and still use it many times per shift.
Lean mean classic.
Faster info access than all the gimmicky PDA toys. And drop-proof.
In case of disgruntled patient, will stop a [small] bullet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good to have in shirt pocket
I've found it invaluable for dosages and quick references for common drugs, but it does miss a good chunk of drugs we do need to know in hospital. I'd companion this with epocrates on your pda/blackberry/smart phone since it doesnt have some of the more important things like contraindications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Good after all these years, May 12, 2010

I used this from 1993 until 1999. Then got out of the habit of using it for 11 years til now (2010).
It has gotten twice as thick as before, lol! But still very useful & small, lean & mean as another reviewer said.

I use a iTouch with Lexidrugs on it, if I need more detail (adverse reactions & percentages, etc. for more unusual drugs like infliximab, & such).

CONS:
1. needs a plastic cover, gets destroyed too easily. I would pay an extra buck for this. I had to make one of my own (cut a spare larger plastic cover down & heat sealed the edges).

2. the pages need just a bit bigger margins to write in (my old Tarascons, I wrote notes in tiny handwriting on the margin of the page, but now that margin is gone. Give me another 3-4 mm of margin to write a note in).

I have been using this since residency - still prefer it to epocrates. I do also use Epocrates, but I like having this in my coat pocket.

The Best thing to have in my pocket for many years running. As an emergency physician it is the one and only thing I always carry in my pocket, PDA's can get low on battery and honestly be unreliable.

I carry the Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia Classic Shirt-Pocket Edition in my pocket at all times. If I ever need to know correct doses or milligrams available I have it at my finger tips.

Could not have gotten through med school or internship without this one. Still have a sentimental attachment to the series, and appreciate their sense of humor more.

I bought this book for use in the clinical setting. It is very useful for quick drug reference. However, I would recommend using the Epocrates Free Rx application for cell phones over this book. It is quicker, easier to carry, and gives much more information. If a non-electronic pocket-reference guide to medicines is what your looking for, then this is a good book to purchase. It gives prescribing information, pricing, and even pregnancy categories. It is a good buy for the price/content.

This is a great little handbook to keep in your pocket. It is a quick brand/generic resource as well as dosing for little kiddos. Very helpful on emergency department rotation in 4th year of pharmacy school. Hasn't been quite as helpful in other rotations though.

5.0 out of 5 stars PA student gives two thumbs up, December 13, 2010

I think every medical student should have this book in their coat arsenal (you know what I'm talking about). Usually I look it up on my iphone 1st on Medscape but this book is tops for dosing or if you have a condition and you aren't quite sure what you should prescribe then you can look up drugs by system. Those vaguely familiar names will pop out at you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for every white coat, November 29, 2010

This review is from: Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia 2010 Classic Shirt-Pocket Edition (Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia: Classic Shirt-Pocket Edition) (Paperback)
As a third year medical student I am always looking up trade names as I was taught the generic ones in med school. I also have to look up dosing and this book is great for both purposes. It is compact and includes only the most relevant information. This is one of the best purchases I have made for my rotations and leaves my white coat only to look up information and on the rare occasion that I wash my coat.
