Chock full of much data. Not all that I needed (format of entries and quantity of info inconsistent. More text needed (even if just a little)

This is a handy pocket sized drug reference book that i was introduced to first as a 3rd year medical student and I still use today (3 years into private practice). I refer to it often and it is updated yearly with the latest drugs and a new section on herbal products.

Plus it is small enough to keep in your coat pocket and packed full of useful information including drug dosing, pregnancy category, routes of metabolism and relative cost.

This book is a must purchase for those already in clinical practice and for students and residents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reference for modern medical care, February 12, 2007
This review is from: Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia, 2007 Classic Shirt-Pocket Edition (Paperback)
I've been buying these little books every year for nearly 15 years now. As a practicing physician, it is one of two essential books I use every day (the other one being the Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy). In fact, this year I ordered three copies, so I could keep the physicians I practice with from stealing my copy! Simply put, more drugs come out on the market every day, and relying on my memory to recall the correct doses for every indication...well, I'd be foolish to think I was that infallible. I have used other guides in the past, but I keep coming back to this one. Drugs are grouped by medical specialty, then by class. Each drug also includes information on metabolism and excretion, safety in pregnancy, safety in lactation, a symbol to flag if it is a DEA controlled substance, relative cost per month or per course of treatment, other names of the drug, and typical treatment regimens. I highly recommend it.

Tarascon's pocket pharmacopeia covers practically all important drugs doctors frequently use. The major strength is its handy size and focussed approach. This pocket book is a must for every clinician.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for Medical Students and Residents, December 4, 2000
By A Customer
This is the best shirt-pocket sized drug book available. It is excellent for looking up unfamiliar drugs your patients are on, dosages and regimens for unfamiliar or seldom-used drugs, and safety profile in pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Probably the most important book you can carry with you, especially if you work in an E.R.

Tarascon's Pocket pharmacopoeia is a must if you are a pharmacy or medical student. It is a very useful quick reference if you forgot an obscure, but relevant fact. I use it all of the time. This is must to buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars great, November 5, 1999

The best money I ever spent. I should have bought it two years earlier and I would have learned something in medical school. I use it every day as an attending.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Patient Care, January 30, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a Family Nurse Practitioner and I order one of these annually. If I did not need reading glasses, the regular pocket edition would probably be okay, but I can often read this print in the deluxe edition without my glasses. This edition also has some very handy charts and I particularly use the one addressing Oral Contraceptives on a regular basis. In my opinion, this book beats the heck out of thumbing through a huge PDR and I can look things up just as quick (if not more so) than my colleagues with PDA programs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - a life saver!!!, January 27, 2003

Every pharmacist and pharmacy student as well as medical student/doctor should have this book. It is economical, highly portable and very complete. I feel naked at work without my Tarascon. This is up there with the Drug Information Handbook in the list of must-haves for people in the Pharmacy field. I got a lot more out of this little book than most of the textbooks I had to get for pharmacy school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Little Drug Book Ever!, April 4, 2001

A wonderful, shirt-pocket-sized reference with a great index for finding both generic and brand name medicines. The pediatric dosing chart for common antibiotics is easy to use and a godsend on a busy day! The book is well-organized and has been my constant companion every day.
