A Timely Christian Science Fiction Read, May 24, 2009
This review is from: Tare (Hardcover)
The parable of the tares comes to life in Peggy Sue Yarber's first published work entitled "Tare". Intriguing cover art sets the stage for this political thriller suspense story. The government has "invaded" a small farming town to quarantine a virus and keep it from spreading to other communities. A soldier leaves his position as part of this invading force to get his own family out of harm's way.
This book reminded me a bit of the TV series "Jericho" for its military presence, and the movie "Mad Max" for its futuristic, almost apocalyptic, flavor. This is a timely parable to be dramatized as the second coming of Christ approaches. "Tare" is a decent story, but this novel didn't grab and hold my attention as I expected it to do.

A New Approach to Sci-Fi Fiction, May 1, 2009
This review is from: Tare (Hardcover)
Peggy Sue is the wife of my youngest son, Mark. Because of this relationship, a favorable review by me naturally would be biased. However, if any biases exist, a favorable review is mandatory as her book reflects a ground-breaking achievement in sci-fi storydom. "Tare" represents a new approach in science fiction. Rather than the usual boom-boom gadgetry and weird monsters in a far away galaxy, her literary power is achieved by blending a biblical parable with a part of today's civilization compounded by the messianic intrustion of a secret and cruel Government experiment. The Government agents of death are snake-like creatures with unusual powers who look like ordinary humans. They do not hesitate to slaughter anyone who poses the slightest threat to Government enforcement orders.Witness how our Government could secretly hold an entire community in hostage, instilling one-man rule, to fulfill its terrible agenda under the color of "saving" mankind. You'll be amazed how she introduces, unfolds, and analyzes this type of unthinkable situation which could entrap us in real life today. It's a phenomenal book; one you should read and re-read as a Bible to interpret and contemplate what could happen if that fateful day arrives when you too become faced with a life or death decision demanded by an encrazed Government. Thankfully, "tarism" is mere science fiction and hopefully, it'll stay that way.
Conincidentally, you'll hear a lot more from this new author. Her new book, "The Judas Ride" will be out in June 2009 as well as her latest children's book. You'll want to enjoy these, as I have. Her website is ps yarber.com.
