5.0 out of 5 stars When Porsche and Ferrari Ruled the Targa Florio, January 10, 2009
This review is from: Targa Florio: The Porsche and Ferrari Years, 1955-1964 (Racing) (Paperback)
This book from the excellent Brooklands Books series on great European races provides coverage from 1955 through 1964 of the great Sicilian road race. Starting with coverage of Stirling Moss and Peter Collins victory in a Mercedes 300SLR in 1955, the book includes the oddball "regularity test" victory by Fiat after the 1955 Le Mans tragedy almost outlawed sports car racing, and the subsequent traditional victories by Ferrari and Porsche. This was an era of great cars, such as the Ferrari 246P and the Porsche RSK and 904, and great drivers, such as Wolfgang von Trips, Olivier Gendebien, Joachim Bonnier, Hans Herrmann, and Pedro Rodriguez. Contemporary articles from such journals as Autocar, Road & Track, Car & Driver, and Sports Car Graphic provide vivid and detailed coverage beyond what one would find in a comprehensive history. Not to be missed.
