Bad science fiction focuses on technology. Good science fiction looks at how technology is used by people and, in the case of this book, against people. In the future, advertising is much more than blips between TV shows and songs on the radio. It's all around. Maybe "around" isn't the correct word. It's even more permeating than that, and the weasels behind it know just who to prey on, just who their target audience is. This quick read deftly establishes a believable futuristic setting and introduces characters that are easy to latch onto, delving into a heartbreaking love story that really is unlike any other.

Shale Nelson's Target Audience made me both excited and utterly scared for the future. Well-written and highly engaging, the story of Dwight and Sharlut (love the name) immediately pulls you in and makes you want to read more. I really appreciated the author's use of figurative language, allowing me to easily picture each scene. As a Saint Paulite, I especially liked the details about the downtown landmarks and Pig's Eye. I would highly recommend this novella to anyone who ever wonders just how far corporations will go to sell you something. Because it's pretty far. You'll wish this novella was a straight-up novel by the time you get to the last page.

There is nothing in this neat book that describes how we can be 'approached' by advertising in the future that is probably not in someone's project list today. But unlike some, I don't think that is a problem. How to sift through all the information that is available is a daunting task so if I'm interested in a new drill, I appreciate the help. I have a son-in-law who's business presents to your browser the adds you see today and I'm thrilled to see that there could be an expanded future for his work. And I have a farmer friend who's for years been looking for the right woman to move to the farm .... Very well written, and absolutely going to be great to look back on in 40 years and see how right the author got it! enough said - get the book!!! (I got it on my Kindle).
