5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing (if you really want to be healthier read this book), February 1, 2008
This review is from: On Target Living Nutrition: The power of feeling your best (Paperback)
It all started about 2 years ago when the author of this book gave a talk at my company to about 2,000 people. At the time I was lazy, obese, and didn't know the first thing about true health and well-being. I was just like most everyone else there, I thought all fat was bad, carbs were bad, and didn't even realize the PH imbalance due to my diet was what was causing my acid reflux. I used to lift weights when I was younger and I had done some dieting in college and lost a lot of weight, but it soon came back and I was nearing my all time high of 240 and 40 inch waists were only a few weeks away.

So after Chris spoke to us I had some really conflicting concepts, he made me question what I thought about eating healthy. I ended up buying his first book and applied a few of his ideas from the seminar to my daily life...but for some reason I still didn't get around to reading the book for almost a year so not much really changed for me in that first year. Then I read the book and all of those seeds of knowledge that he had planted the year before began to grow and I couldn't believe how clearly I was starting to see things. Don't get me wrong there is no one thing that just clicked, we are talking about extensive diet changes, but if you make them a few at a time they are entirely attainable.

So over the last year I started riding bikes, lifting weights again and trying to eat healthy. I went from 240 in January to about 210 in October and then things kind of stopped. Then I heard that there was a new book out, so I got it as soon as I could and read it. This time around the seeds that started to grow when I read his first book (which is very much the same as his second) really took off. As I read a chapter about fat or protein or what we drink I actively applied that to my life. I now try to eat much closer to whole unrefined foods and try to make sure to eat 5-7 smaller meals a day and many of the other things outlined in the book. I am now down to 192 and falling fast and the great thing about this whole thing is that it is NOT A DIET...I am not hungry, I have lots of energy, I feel great. I simply replaced crappy low quality refined foods with balanced, high quality, whole foods that taste great and make me feel better than I have ever felt.

I no longer take my acid reflux pills, I don't get headaches anymore, I'm not always tired like I used to be, I need to buy new clothes because mine are too big instead of the other way around and my overall outlook on life has never been better, words can't say enough about how much this has changed my life, it has been a 2 year process so far, and things just keep looking better.

There is nothing complicated about this book, all of the chapters are very well organized and easy to understand and relatively short and to the point. There is also a food target in the back of the book that gives great examples of poor, fair, good, better, and best food choices from fats, carbs, and proteins...the closer to the center of the target you eat the healthier you become I have done this and it is amazing. So if you really want to know how to be healthy and don't want any gimmicks or fluff this book is by far the best thing I have ever seen or heard on the topic. I hope you can benefit from it as much as I have and continue to do, it is my one and only reference when I have questions about food. I think about the only thing that would be better is if Chris were my own personal trainer so I could get constant feedback and updates on what he has learned. I really hope he does more books in the future to keep things updated.

Read this book and take some of the steps it outlines, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get This Book!!!, December 24, 2007
This review is from: On Target Living Nutrition: The power of feeling your best (Paperback)
I bought this book and was hoping it wouldn't be one of those very complicated diet books that I have so many of. The buzzword these days for diets is "it's a lifestyle change" - so many times I haven't been able to sustain those "lifestyle changes" because I bit off (pardon the pun) more than I could chew. Each time I thought "this is IT" - I get it now and now I've got the magic key to get healthier.

As Chris says, there is no magic key here. That's another thing I've heard before. What's nice about this though is he gave me enough nutritional knowledge in layman's language to really get the effects of my current lifestyle. I know intuitively why want to get healthy more clearly - I can imagine having more energy now in a way that I couldn't before because he gives lots of options for "baby-stepping" your way through this. Many of them are such common sense and things we have to do anyway.

One of those common sense options is breathing. We have to breathe anyway as long as we're living and it doesn't take any longer or cost anything to take deeper breaths. That increases our metabolism as well.
Such a simple thing. . . .I'm doing it anyway. . . . and so are you if you're reading this. So, take a deep one right now. . . see, doesn't that feel better!

It puts exercise, lifestyle and nutrition all together in simple layman's terms and takes out the overwhelm replacing it with sensible alternatives that you can choose based on whatever suits you.

Well done, Chris!! Thank you for a priceless addition to my library.

After attending a company sponsored seminar by the author, Chris Johnson, I read this book from cover to cover. It is an extremely easy book to read, very educational and informative on not only how the body works but how to properly eat right. Attending Chris Seminar and reading his book gave me a light bulb moment in wanting to change my diet and properly exercise to improve my health, fitness, energy level. Why would you not? I realize that I like most people have had very little education about nutrition eating junk food and crap low nutrient food that food companies sell us. I highly encourage anyone to buy this book. If you want to feel better, lose weight, reduces illnesses, and hopefully live longer then buy this book. The author Chris is 54 yrs old; I think he was 52 when he wrote this book; does this guy look like his age? No, he looks like he is in his early 40s all because of his lifestyle and food. You should also check out this website, www.OnTargetLiving.com to get his free monthly email newsletter as well as being able to buy some of his workout DVD and audio CD which I did and some nutritional supplements like cod liver oil, spirula chorella. I have lost 5 pounds in a month and half of his exercise and some changes in my diet. Chris is a big fan of superfoods of Wheatgrass, Oatmeal, Cod Liver oil, Spirula Chorella, and Flaxseed. I am taking all of them except Wheatgrass. My energy level is up, my love handles are gone, I feel less stressed out at work, my chest & abs feel tight like I am 15yrs younger. I am excited that I am feeling the benefits in such a short period of time even though I haven't changed my diet completely. Chris is a big believer in small steps add up over time; can't change years of poor eating overnight but at least he is pushing you in the right direction.

Great Job Chris, Thank you for changing my life. I attended your seminar w/ Merrill in Phoenix in July 2011.

This book is very helpful to me to set up my own fitness schedule. The more important items for me to learn was to learn was the balance of carbohydrate, Protein and fat in daily diet and a whole slew of breakfasts with already established calori values.

I thoroughly enjoyed Chris Johnson's book on Nutrition. His suggestion for eating in the green of the target 80% of the time and 20% of the time outside of the green makes this plan/life style easy for every one, even my husband who refuses to give up some of his processed foods. I love this book and have recommended it to many just as it was recommended to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Motivating, October 3, 2011
By

This review is from: On Target Living Nutrition: The power of feeling your best (Paperback)
I have long desired to eat healthier. I have attended numerous nutrition seminars and each time I get the information, go home and forget it. Then I had the opportunity to hear Chris speak at my office. He gave us this book and during his seminar I heard a lot of the things that I had heard before, but he so brilliantly explains things that I only understood it for the very first time. I could not wait to get started reading the book. It is clear, concise, and explains things in a way you can understand.

I have never been so motivated to eat right. I have been incorporating Chris' advice slowly but surely - which is what he recommends. He encourages you to change behaviors one day at a time. It's not an all or nothing kind of nutrition. He encourages you to make changes at your pace all the while improving the quality of the foods you are eating.

I have been eating better for about three weeks now and I cannot believe how much better I feel and I haven't even made all of the changes yet! I just feel so much better eating this way, that if I also lose weight it will be an amazing bonus. We have tried some of the sample recipes in the book and they are delicious. My teenage son has loved the things I have made so families will like it too. I have ordered the cookbook and cannot wait until it comes so I can try out some of his other recipes.

Now if only I could get the exercise part down...
