4.0 out of 5 stars Nice set for small spaces
We just finished putting this set together and it looks very nice. The package was completely destroyed by UPS while in transit for delivery, but any scratches can be easily covered using a furniture marker. But there was ONE very big problem. You guessed it... we were unable to assemble the last chair due to missing hardware as well as one of the threads on the inside...

I received this set yesterday and after taking the pieces out of the box I was impressed by the solid wood quality and nice finish. There were some thin areas of the stain but they were all in hidden areas such as the underside of the table top. The assembly instructions were fairly clear though the images weren't of the highest quality, overall the assembly is pretty much foolproof.

Where I had an issue was two of the screws packaged with the set were cross threaded and since there were no spare screws included I was unable to assemble the last chair. Taking the screws and anchors to the hardware store I was unable to find a good match for the screws so I ended up buying two new anchor points and two new cap screws which don't match the rest of the set. If you run into the same issue I believe the screws at 6mm but I didn't have any luck finding the right length and head style.

For the price I'm satisfied with the purchase but adding a few spare screws would've made the process flawless.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken Parts, cheaply made, no response from seller?, November 22, 2010
This review is from: Target Marketing Systems 5 Piece Metropolitan Dining Set , Espresso (Kitchen)
Hello Mr. Seller,
Please return my call. I have owned this set less than a week and a rear leg broke which lead to another rear leg being cracked. No, my dad was not leaning back in the chair, he simply shifted his weight and I heard it crack. I spent 2 hours putting it together and now they want me to spend the time to take it all apart or ship me an entire new set because the seller is no where to be found? Don't buy this set unless you are okay with a $180 pile of firewood or can deal with the hassle hours of set up and break down of a set to return it.

3.0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for, October 1, 2010
This review is from: Target Marketing Systems 5 Piece Metropolitan Dining Set , Espresso (Kitchen)
It was a pain to put together, and several pieces of the chairs were scratched or dented (a brown sharpie fixed that though). $220 for a five piece set is a great price, but you get what you pay for. I'm a law student and rarely even use the set but it serves its purpose. If this is for everyday or high volume use its probably worth shelling out the extra cash for a higher quality set because the chairs are already loosening and wobbly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Little Furniture Set, BUT... poor customer care, January 27, 2011

Assembly was pretty typical for such a product, too few words, pictures a bit hard to read, a few hassles with the fit. Overall, a good experience until the last chair, then got 2 cross-threaded screws. No spares, I was able to go to NAPA auto parts and get some 6mm hex head bolts that I used under the chair where the heads would not show, but wasted about 2 hours fighting with and shopping around for screws.
I agree with other reviewers --- It should be much easier to contact the seller and/or Amazon Customer Service to just ask for a couple of replacement parts to be sent out. Target Marketing Systems is associated with Target Stores? It appears so, so there should be a way to get hold of them, right?
P.S. For those who complained about wobbly chairs, you may need to follow the directions and go back and tighten things up after a week. I did and they have been fine since then.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money, February 14, 2011

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my husband. However, when it arrived the top of the table had a huge crack down the whole thing and so did one of the chairs. The return policy puts all the work on us so we gave up and kept it. It's now less than 2 months since we put it together and one of the chairs is pretty much a goner, and it's not due to constant use. And, when we tried to clean the table with pledge it left marks that we can't get off. I wouldn't recommend buying this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hardware problems, July 11, 2011

The shipping for this product was very fast, however we had problems putting it together. Two of the 4 chairs the hardware didn't work at all. Then I had a hard time contacting the correct department to get replacements. I was hoping to only get new hardware but was shipped an entire new table set. We made 2 good chairs out of the new table but returning this beast was tough since it weighed 100 lbs. UPS came to pick up the old table before I got the new one so that was an issue, I had to be creative to find the call tag in the amazon system to return the table. After all that I am very satisfied with the table, for the price it wasn't too bad..

The product is fairly well represented on the website. Good enough for the price. The chairs are a bit wobbly and weak, but you get what you pay for.

The table portion is fine. The chairs on the other hand crack, and break. I bought this set 2 months ago, and wish I never had! What a waste of money!
