This is Real Hip hop,

I'm a huge fan of the underground hip hop scene. Commercial MCee's aren't saying much these days. Insight comes through with the rugged yet harmonic and jazzy beats, and highly intelligent rhymes (check out Black Inventors remix). If you like groups like Gangstarr, Tribe, Roots, and rappers like J-Live and Binary Star, you will definitely feel this joint right here. At first, looking at my man's iTunes collection, I didn't know what to expect from this dude but I give him props for putting out something unique and outside of the mold. A must-have for anyone who listens to REAL Hip Hop. This should be (but probably won't be due to lack of promotion and exposure) an instant hip hop classic. Don't sleep on this.

Insight's Targeting Zones is a classic Hip-Hop and real rap album that easily resembles old-school Hip Hop. It is embellished very well with the jazz harmonic tones and Insight shows why he is one of my favorite rappers. This is designed to cure souls who've been damaged greatly by commercialism and money just reminding you to keep it down-to-earth. The album has an old soul like the beautiful 80's hip-hop jazz, the roots of Hip-Hop music, and is similar to the styles of Guru and Gangstarr "I'm Jazzy." Insight epitomizes the true Hip-Hop artist; he was born and raised in the States before leaving to Japan because his music is more attractive to their market and avoiding the commericial pressures of major labels in the United States. With songs like "Good Morning" feat. Electric, the album quickly establishes itself as relaxing mellow-down music. "Zone" is my favorite track on the album using a great sample that I could not find the credits for. "Zone" is an instantly catchy song: "Come on...Zone! Cause now's the time to lose focus. Zone! Cause you know it's so important you control it." Insight just goes all out on this track and the production is amazing, one classic track you have never heard of. Some of my other favorite tracks on the album include: "The Usual Scene", "Now Time To Cool Out", "No Turning Back", "Situations" feat. Electric", "Under A Spell", and the heart-filled "Good Morning (remix)". There are several remixes on this album including the experimental "Message Pandemonium" with KRS-One. I think the remixes are just illustrating the strength and diversity of the DJs in Japan. If you are interested listening to true rap lyricists with soulful tones similar to One Be Lo, Guru or Q-Tip, then this is the album for you! |
