This guy Bob Hamer really knows how to keep the story moving, keep the characters involving and keep us on the edge of our seats. This second novel from Hamer featuring his Matt Hogan character shows that Hamer's first novel was no fluke. Hogan's conflict between his work, his personal morals and his faith are woven throughout a thoroughly compelling story of international crime and terrorism. The relationship with his wife reads true and the procedural work (and bureaucracy) within the FBI is always interesting. If there is any complaint I might have, it's only that there aren't a dozen more books in the franchise waiting for me to read next!

Because the visual Bob Hamer paints in his new book, Targets Down, is like being at the movies. From the opening scene of our all American hero, Matt Hogan, putting fake SS tattoos on his neck preparing for his undercover assignment to that super surprise finish ..... which I could tell you, but I won't. :-) Enjoy this book.

I found Bob to be a really good writer. His background as a real undercover agent helps him create a great read.

Targets Down pulls you in from the beginning so much so that I read the first 20 chapters straight thru. The book twists and turns keeping you guessing as to what happens next making it hard to put down! Bob Hamer's experience as an undercover FBI agent brings authenticity to the plot exposing the reader to society's dark underbelly. Everything is tied together and connected in surprising and unsuspecting ways that keep you on the edge of your seat. From the start, Matt Hogan and characters come alive through Hamer's details feeling so real it is as if you can reach out and touch them. I LOVE a book that delivers that sense of realism and depth of character and Bob Hamer has signed, sealed and delivered on this one. Targets Down goes to the extreme. There is no in-between making it the real deal!!! Trust me, once you start reading this book, Targets Down will be "Targets Done" in no time! Ready and waiting for Hogan's next mission...

Bob, Thank You for your courageous service to our great country...Semper Fi and Army Strong!

I haven't read many books about undercover agents, so when I found out that this is what Matt Hogan does, I was excited to dive into this suspense novel. I'd definitely label this book a `mature read' for many reasons that I will explain, but even with the adult content, I found it a very neat and exciting adventure.

Matt was a very likeable, rugged guy. Reading about him going undercover and rubbing shoulders with the bad guys, and just the complexity it must be to living two different lives, made me really get to like and respect this guy. What a tough time undercover cops can have! Both from the bad guys and, from Matt's adventure, dealing with the people in charge higher up who don't understand what it's like to be undercover. Certainly makes me respect and appreciate the real undercover agents in this world even more.

As I mentioned, I'd recommend this book for mature readers. Matt goes undercover investigating a strip club, so you can get a pretty good idea of what kind of stuff the book has in it. Bob Hamer never goes into detail, but frequently mentions the things that goes on in that place and the girls there. Admirably, Matt stays as far away from it all as he can when there and refuses to participate. The other adultish-content was between Matt and his wife, Caitlyn. I thought it was really special and sweet to see Matt's love for his wife, but some of the stuff they mention wasn't "kid-friendly". (i.e. one time Matt asks if she wants to "go make a baby".)

The whole plot surrounded the strip club, The Russian Veil, and everything illegal that was going on there, was pretty neat. The opening of the book was gripping and that tension and adventure was kept up throughout the whole book.

Former undercover FBI agent Bob Hamer has written another great read. His alter ego Matt Hogan is a street-smart, God-fearing, wife-loving undercover FBI agent who gets the job done. In Targets Down his investigation of a murder involves him with the Russian mob, sex trafficking, and even a parent/teacher conference. Full of dry humor, the bright prose of Bob's book sees justice flow like a river, moving along at a brisk pace and offering both men and women a peek into the world of crime fighting where the good guys win. It is, like his other books, a love letter to the FBI, one I found hard to put down.
Let's have more Matt Hogan books, Bob!

This was a great book from a author that has been there and lived it. It is Retired FBI Agents third book and so far the best. All have been good, but he gets better in the suspense & mystery in this one. I am looking forward to one of his books becoming a movie.

I enjoyed this novel very much. Even though it is fiction I found myself thankful for those who fight to give us a better country to live in at the risk of their own lives as well as their family. I will buy from this author again. I liked having the main character who is so dedicated to his wife.
