I selected the folder from which I wanted to transfer the files, and to where to send it on the remote computer and that was it!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I picked this out for a replacement of a much older device that was similar to this one and I'm quite pleased with it!

It has all the software contained within the device so no need to have a driver disk installed into each computer, just plug it in and Win XP will take care of the setup for you. It's so simple it's ridiculous.

Pros:
Plug and play: plug it in and let it do it's thing!
Simple software that anyone with a 1/10 of a brain can figure out
has a nice long cable between the connections
comes with a carry pouch
comes with a velcro strap to keep the cable tidy

Cons:
The head of the main head on this unit of the device is kind of large so you may need to unplug other USB devices to fit this into the USB port. For some computers you may need to plug it into the back of the computer due to the size fact that some USB ports are set into the devices too far and this will be hard to get into there.

The price isn't bad but could always be better, I rather like this though and it will go in my laptop bag for when I need to get at large files or give large files when I'm out and about. No need to transfer to a disk, USB flash drive, or hook into the other persons network anymore. just plug into their USB port and be done with it.

(just a note on the speed of this device, limited by your system)
IDK who added the prior comments about speed to my review (one of my family members probably, but yeah... that was false info) Data transfer is limited by the fact that this is a USB 2.0 device and you'll be lucky to get 40mbps, I hope they redo this device for 3.0 as I rather like the interface and the ease of use. I've been using it on a lot of systems to just make life easier when transferring but as the transfer rate of info across USB can be kind of slow so when doing large transfers you may want to invest in a case that has firewire connections or eSATA. It will make life a lot easier.

Installation
------------
The installation is fairly simple. I plug in one end of the cable to winxp notebook and the other end into winvista PC. It does not matter if you swap the ends. For winvista, installation of driver is fully automatic. For winxp, it is almost fully automatic except you need to restart the PC once. Once the driver is installed in each machine, the cable is detected as a CDROM drive (kind of weird). Using My Computer, you can access the drive and run the program. Before you can transfer files between the two machines, you need to run the program in both machines. This means the cable only works for Mac and winxp/vista and no other devices. Once loaded, you will be able to transfer files between the 2 machines.
Transferring files
------------------
As described by the manufacturer, the purpose of the product is to transfer files between two machines (Mac/Winxp/winvista) at speeds up to 480mbps. A plus feature is you are able to synchronize folders as well as emails. But be warned that the although the interface is similar to windows explorer, the functionality is nowhere near the robust functionality of windows explorer. You cannot right click and get info of folders and files. In addition, you won't be able to view names in other languages. Long names also give problems. Overally, I can say the software is generations behind winxp. I transferred a 480MB file and it took around 24s, means, the speed is 20mb/s. Both machines have USB 2.0. I also tried transferring multiple files (smaller), 4401 of them, total size of 92MB and it took 3min.
Recommendations
---------------
If you expect to backup your programs or even the whole windows into another PC with a super large hard drive, this product won't work.

Well one day my XP laptop failed to boot up properly. I could only get it to boot up in "Safe Mode". I spent many hours trying to resolve the boot-up problem, but ultimately I was not successful. I was going to have to re-install Windows. But first, I had to get my important files off of the laptop! (Of course, I did not have a recent backup.)

The problem is that in Safe Mode, I could not get files off of my laptop and onto some other storage device. USB flash drives did not work. Burning CD's did not work. Networking did not work. Ugh.

Then I stumbled upon this Targus cable in a store and decided to give it a try. I had access to a borrowed Vista laptop. So I plugged the fat end of the cable into the working Vista machine, and the skinny end of the cable into my XP machine running in Safe Mode. And, lo and behold, the EasySuite software popped up on both laptops and I had an effortless way to copy files from the XP to the Vista machine. After so many hours of trying things that did not work, it was a delight to be able to use this product, which worked for me despite my XP laptop being in Safe Mode. It almost seemed too easy, but I'm glad it worked!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Whenever one upgrades a computer, some of the joy of having the new system is often lost when trying to transfer a large amount of documents, photos, MP3s, videos as such from the old computer to the new.

The Targus High-Speed File Transfer Cable may be one of the best solutions to be found for accomplishing this task, for it does the job effortlessly and in a speedy fashion. Further, it requires no extra software applications that need to be loaded to get the job done, as its embedded EasySuite software shows up as a CD-ROM once both computers have been plugged in. The software is actually stored on flash memory inside the larger of the cable's USB connector plugs.

This has to be one of the easiest file transfer solutions that I've found, and one that is good for the most basic user or the computer professional alike, as it's fast and reliable. All that you need do is plug the USB plugs in both computers while they are up and running. You'll see a blue light appear on the larger USB plug, then look on thye computer screen for the EasySuite icon (which looks like a CD-ROM drive) and click on it. From that point you can select the appropriate file or folder, then drag and drop it into the destination on the other computer... it's that simple.

Older PC users who may remember an application known as Norton Commander from the pre-Windows days of MS-DOS will appreciate the look and feel of this solution, along with with its speed and reliability.
