How to look like a pro (even if you're not),
By Amanda Richards (Georgetown, Guyana) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Targus Blacktop Deluxe Case Designed to Protect 17 Inch Laptops CKT500 (Black) (Personal Computers)
This Targus notebook case is a great way to carry around all your stuff and still look cool, professional and ready for action.
The good stuff: 1. It can fit notebooks up to 17" securely and safely. There's a strap to hold your equipment in place, it's nicely padded and has an adjustable inner wall for extra snugness. It even opens like a briefcase for easy packing. 2. The same compartment has three pockets with Velcro closures, a zippered mesh pocket and some slots for letters, warranty cards or other documentation. There's ample space for a mouse (optical, cordless, furry with tail), flash drives, cds and dvds, cords, headphones, bells and whistles. 3. The zipper for the notebook section can be locked with a padlock. 4. The front flap has an easy fastener, and also has a zip pocket, right at the front of the bag, perfect for passport and tickets when traveling 5. Lift the flap for another compartment, and more pockets, with slots for pens, glasses, keys, and whatever else you like to carry around. 6. The back has a padded Velcro-closing pocket for newspapers, magazines or other reading matter. 7. Yet another zippered compartment has two slots for important documents and not so important documents. 8. The handle is tough rubber, defying you to mess with it, and the bottom and sides are protected with a corrugated rubber strip. You can set this one down on the floor - it can take it. 9. Even if you aren't carrying around a laptop all the time, this case works fine as a large briefcase for work or travel, with lots of room for a change of clothes, product samples, toiletries (make sure they adhere to airline safety regulations), files, manuals, snacks, extra undies and more. The other stuff: 1. If you have a 17" laptop, there's not enough space in the padded section to hold your power cord, but there are so many other compartments and pockets that this shouldn't pose a major problem - other than remembering where you put it. (There's plenty of space for a bottle of Ginkgo Biloba) 2. It's pretty durn heavy to lug around, especially for those already having to contend with a full handbag, cup of coffee and high heeled shoes 3. The generous number of compartments encourages you to carry around more stuff than you need - just in case of emergencies. (And then of course you can't remember where you packed them in the first place) 4. It tends to fall over if you don't put it down carefully or lean it against something. 5. The strap looks a little cheap compared to the rest of the case, and keeps spinning around, so you always have to check that the padded piece is on the inside, but it's easier to carry it by the handle anyway. Sturdy, roomy, comfy and a tad bit clunky, but overall a good case for larger notebooks, work or travel. Amanda Richards, September 22, 2007

Too Cumbersome,
This review is from: Targus Blacktop Deluxe Case Designed to Protect 17 Inch Laptops CKT500 (Black) (Personal Computers)
Bag is "designed" to handle a 17" lap top but, they forgot to tell you that if you carry a 17" it will not accomodate the power cord and brick. Found multitude of pockets distracting it was like a frustrating treasure hunt when I wanted to find something quickly. When filled, bag is lop-sided and continually falls over rather than set upright like other cases. Not very impressed.

The best Notebook Case,

I've had several cases... and this is by far the best. I like it better than the $250 Tumi case I have. Just so practical. Love the clamshell design so you just lay the case flat and set the computer in, rather than slipping it in sideways from the top. Good storage, compartments, and excellent protection. The large one can fit a 17" laptop, but also has a piece to secure a smaller laptop in place.

This is the second one of these I purchased. I had one that got damaged in my home and was happy to be able to get an exact replacement.
Best feature of this bag: the laptop compartment opens out flat, allowing you to loand and unload it and get access to the built-in pockets without reaching around into a top-loading compartment. it has plenty of storage space, accessory stash pockets and two full-size briefcase-type compartments. On the back is a handy attachment that firmly engages the handle on a rollaround suitcase. The handle grip is large and well-designed. What's not to like?

This is a very well-constructed case, made of heavy nylon fabric with adequate padding. There are numerous internal and external storage pockets (several with velcro closures), the zippers are heavy duty and the handle is comfortable--which counts for a lot when carrying a heavy 17-inch laptop. The main storage compartment opens flat, giving easy access to the computer and most of the storage pockets. I needed a case for my Dell 1720, and that particular computer just fits in the main compartment. The power supply and cords fit easily in one of the several external pockets. There is still more than enough room for a trackball, webcam and headphones, and even then most of the extra storage space is unoccupied. The loaded case will stand upright after a bit of breaking in (it is somewhat compressed for shipping). I do not find having all those secure internal pockets a deficit. Overall, I think this is a very thoughtfully designed and ruggedly constructed case and after several months of use I am still very satisfied with my purchase.

When look at the pictures on this notebook case it gives you the impression that your investment on a laptop will be well protected. Well think twice. I bought a Macbook pro and I didn't want to put it in just a nice case with lots of compartments (as this is the case with this bag. Lots of nice compartments) but my theme was protection for my investment.
The sides are soft although it looks tough and God forbids your case gets knocks over Im afraid this case will not give the right protection. And is very pricey too.

Only have taken it on one trip so far and really like the room for the larger computer I have plus the extras I carry. Would like a few more dividers for papers and more of the pockets need velcro covers to keep thinks stable. Miss my sunglass container in my old Targus. Hopefully the CKT500 will wear well as the leather covered metal piping around the edges frayed on my old Targus allowing the heavy wire to stick out and snag things. So far so good

This product was exactly what I had been looking for in a carrying case. I do not use it for a notebook, but I do carry a small pocketbook in it plus a hardback novel and all my electrical gadgets. The comparments and two cord cases help me keep all of it organized. Occasionally I even put part of my lunch in there. With all those "supplies" in it, the case has a simple, sleek look and does not appear to "busting at the seams" like my old leather notebook case did.

Just as decribed in display...Unbelievable price for this item...Like to see more items for sale like this for the price listed. These domed bags are getting harder to find and are usually overpriced. Good deal...

This is a really good case to have for larger latptops. It's the only one I could find that accomodated our 18" laptop. Has lots of pockets for accessories but it can get very heavy if you load it up.
