My title pretty much says it all, I got this case a few days ago and absolutely LOVE it's design and the fact that it fits a 17" widescreen notebook without having to cram the laptop into the case! The velcro insert can be moved to make more space to accommodate the larger laptops. I love the seperate mesh zippered pouch for the power pac, it has lots of built in pouches and mesh pockets for cell phone, mp3 player, chargers and holds 5 cds or dvd's, has another zippered file folder for papers or books, another large compartment under the flap for pens and storage and then two more compartments on each side of the outer sides. I transferred everything from my overstuffed old bag to this case and you would think with all of those compartments it would be bulky and hard to handle, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Even with a 17" notebook everything is so compact and well organized it's still easy to carry and maneuver. This is a great "take on the plane" case because it fits easily under the seat. So durable and well made, Targus is now my laptop bag and case of choice. Definetly worth the price with the free super shipping!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bag - Buy this one...!, February 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Targus Blacktop Deluxe Case with Dome Protection Designed to Protect upto 17 Inch Laptops CPT401DUS (Black with Grey Accents) (Personal Computers)
I recently purchased an 17" wide screen laptop computer and needed to upgrade computer bags. I shopped several stores and came to Amazon initially just to price compare. While here, I found this Targus nylon bag and after a quick review, decided to give it a try. I have had their leather bags for older laptops but this was the first nylon. I find this bag great! Mine is very strongly constructed, and had lots of useful compartments for cell phone, computer accessories. Biggest plus is the extra padding to provide screen protection. Very nice. However, there is one option on a computer bag that is essential to me, but not discussed in prior reviews and that is a strap or zippered section which lets you put the computer over the handles of either carry-on or checked baggage on airplanes. That features prevents a computer bag from falling off the dragged bag and lets you carry/drag both with one hand. This bag DOES have that feature by having a nylon strap that is almost invisible because it is "Velcro-ed" to the bag along the back. Yahoo !! Worth its weight in gold...

Also, to those who read the fellow who could not get his 17" laptop into the bag, you need to pull out the intermediate compartment separator bar in the bag and get rid of it so that the computer sits long ways, not sideways. That compartment serves no purpose for a big computer. The power cube goes in the small mesh bag that is included with the main bag. Great buy. Great product.

I've been looking for a laptop case for my new 18.5 inch screen HP HDX-18 laptop and the Targus CPT401DUS is a perfect match. There are no laptop case for laptops that are over 18 inch screen size. The nice looking CPT401DUS case is well designed and constructed with quality material. The Dome protection feature gives me added comfort knowing my laptop will have more protection from those accidental drop the case situations. The handle and shoulder straps are sturdy yet comfortable. All the storage pockets are well laid out and there are plenty of them so I can easily organize my travel items. Although the Targus CPT401 was meant for 17 inch size laptops, my HP HDX-18 fits perfectly in the case. The power supply for the HDX-18 laptop has to be stored in the front pocket but it fits perfectly, still leaving room for other important travel items. Overall, the Targus CPT401DUS is an excellent choice for a laptop case and Amzon's price is just unbeatable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Combines the 3 S's well.... safety, storage and style!, July 9, 2009
This review is from: Targus Blacktop Deluxe Case with Dome Protection Designed to Protect upto 17 Inch Laptops CPT401DUS (Black with Grey Accents) (Personal Computers)
I've had this case since February 2009 and haven't looked back. This protects my 16.4 inch Sony laptop with rooms to spare (has safety restraints to hold the slim notebook in place). It's storage capacity is greatly appreciated as I can carry a book, my phone, laptop, chargers (for both phone & laptop), headphones and more in the notebook while traveling, without compromising the profile of the case.

The case has been very durable and is well made. It's not flashy by any means, but I've been asked on more than one occasion by other business travelers what type of case it is.

In short I'd say its the perfect case for someone wanting to combine funcationality, style and comfort all in one package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value, January 30, 2010

This review is from: Targus Blacktop Deluxe Case with Dome Protection Designed to Protect upto 17 Inch Laptops CPT401DUS (Black with Grey Accents) (Personal Computers)
This laptop case represents an excellent value. The quality of construction and materials used are very good. The "dome" concept is a nice feature. It works much like a shoulder pad worn by a football player in that it dissipates shock energy away from critical areas.

The zippers are high quality and operate very smoothly. The strap snaps are made of metal instead of plastic. The amount of padding in the laptop compartment is more than adequate. I like the fact that the strap pad is sewn to the strap thus preventing pad slippage that many of us find so annoying. The handle is well-padded and comfortable to hold. This is a very roomy bag. It accommodates my Gateway NV7208 (17.3 inch display) quite nicely. And there's still room left over in the laptop compartment for my power adapter and cordless mouse.

All this for under fifty dollars at Amazon. This bag receives my highest endorsement and I would recommend it to anyone.

I ordered the Blacktop Deluxe a few weeks ago and when I received it, I was very disappointed to find that it wasn't actually a deluxe at all even though the plastic bag it was in had a sticker on it that said Blacktop Deluxe. Upon closer inspection, the bag that was sent to me was actually a Blacktop Platinum because it only had one main computer compartment and did not have the file folder compartment on the backside. The Blacktop Deluxe should have two main compartments with double zippers on the front and back of the bag. For those that may not know the difference between the two, this may have gone unnoticed. This order was fulfilled by Galactics through Amazon. I went through the process of returning the item, citing that I received the wrong item and I even called Amazon customer service and explained what happened. I asked for a customer service number for Galactics and tried to call, but never was able to speak to a representative. Amazon refunded my money without an issue but it appears that Galactics is still the company fulfilling orders for this package through Amazon. Thus, I guess I'm stuck ordering from a different site since I can't trust that I'll get the right item if I order it again. I'd suggest doing the same and not experiencing the problem I had.

If you want a nice looking case that offers great protection & versatility - then give this case a serious look. We've had a lot of cases for countless laptops that we've used over many years. None really hit "the sweet spot" of balance between being big enough, but not too bulky - while offering a storage options that are useable. This case is just what I need for everyday use. Those other cases I grew to hate. Wish I'd had this case 20 years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bag For BIG Laptops, September 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Targus Blacktop Deluxe Case with Dome Protection Designed to Protect upto 17 Inch Laptops CPT401DUS (Black with Grey Accents) (Personal Computers)
When I purchased a new HP laptop with a 17" screen I had to get a new computer bag to protect it while traveling. My existing computer bags simply weren't wide enough.

I looked at several different bags at one of the big box retial stores before selecting the Targus Blacktop Delux Case, CPT401DUS. Simply put it was a sutrdier made, better bag than any of the others at which I looked. This is a big, roomy bag with lots of pockets and storage for things other than your computer. At the very rear of the bag is thin fill width pocket held closed at the top by velcro. This pocket is suitable for paperwork or a document to which you might want quick access. Just in front of this pocket is a rear zipper which controls access to a file section. This section is divided into two file pockets each of which could hold several pages (50-60 at leat) of documents or documentation.

Next is the main storage compaartment which has a full wrap around zipper. This compartment came with a divider held in place by vlecro but 17" laptops are too wide for this divider to be useful. If you were going to use this bag for a smaller laptop then this divider would keep the laptp from sliding back and forth. There is a center strap that holds the laptop and keeps it form falling out. Also there is a pouch included for the power brixk and cords. A previous reviewer stated that the power supply wouldn't fit in this main compartment along with the laptop. In my case the power supply fit just fine but between the laptop and the top of the case nearest the carrying handle. The center velcro strap held both laptop and power supply safely in place the one time I nearly dumped them by picking the bag up while the main pocket was fully unzipped. Built into the top of this main pocket is a nassortment of storage pouches and pockets. There are pockets for cellphones, iPods, CD's/DVD's, keys, business card and so forth.

There is a front flap on the bag which is held closed by a large plastic squeeze to release buckle. At the very top of this fron flap is a full width secure pocket held closed by a zipper. This pocket would be used to hold airline tickets and/or passports. Once you open this front flap there gains you access to two more pockets. The rearmost pocket is larger and is a morre or less business organizer pocket. There are loops to hold pens and pencils, a business card pocket and a snap holder for a keyring. This pouch is large enough for a lot of miscellaneous items. I keep my RF mouse in there when traveling plus my iPod and on a recent trip the GPS from my car. On the very front of the bag and under the flap is yet one more mesh pocket with a full width zipper. As you can tell this bag has lots of built in storage.

This bag is reasonably comfortable to travel with. There is a sturdy, rubber coated handle. Carrying the bag using this handle is comfortable. There is also a shoulder strap. The shoulder strap is better for longer treks as in going through airports. While this bag is a comfortable bag be aware that laptops with 17" screens are HEAVIER, sometimes a lot heavier than 14" or 15" laptops.

I just returned from a week long business trip and the case worked quite well. It kept the laptop protected during two airline flights, two hotels plus a trip back and forth to the work site. On this trip in additon to the laptop I had a car GPS, iPod, RF mouse, mouse pad, headphones, car keys plus lots of printed documentation. Everything stayed protected and the bag worked quite well. Tragus does advertise its "Dome Protective System" for enhanced screen protection. I don't know how well this system really works because I haven't dropped the laptop while in the case. I hope that this system works and that I never try it out.

Would I buy this bag again? YES, I would and I would recommend it to anyone shoppoing for a travel bag to hold a 17" laptop.

3.0 out of 5 stars Roomy, but a problem with the "dome protection", June 5, 2009

OK, yes, it's roomy, and has no problem fitting a 17" laptop with the power brick and a mouse in the main compartment. There are plenty of pockets and pouches for accessories and cables, and it seems to be well built...except for the "dome". It comes loose and floats around between two layers of the case material. If I could figure out how to remove it without damaging the bag I would.

For a 17" laptop be carefull. The pics. depict a smaller laptop. With a larger 17" laptop, there is no room in the body of the case to store the power brick charger. Just received case and trying to decide what to do with the power suppy brick. Concerned if I place it on top of computer, case may bulge. For that matter wherever I stick the power supply, the case may bulge. Taking another look at the leather Targus to see if it will provide more space for power supply and will return this one.
