VERY well built, and sturdy.
Mark
I found it fit perfectly under the seat in front of me, except for the aisle seat which has a narrower space, and then I had to stow it in the overhead.

Like the travel friendly computer pouch for airport security.

I travel several times a month and am looking forward to challenge the TSA with this "Checkpoint Friendly" Laptop Bag.

From the TSA website, and I quote,
"Starting Aug. 16, 2008 TSA began to allow laptops to remain in bags meeting "checkpoint friendly" guidelines. Not all laptop bags are "checkpoint friendly". To help streamline the security process and better protect laptops, TSA recently encouraged manufacturers to design bags that will produce a clear and unobstructed image of the laptop when undergoing X-ray screening. A design that meets this objective will enable TSA to allow laptops to remain in bags for screening."

This Targus bag meets all the requirements in place by the TSA. It is less than a third the cost of other maker's bags and for me, is far superior to other bags (and I've tried several) that I paid twice the price for and is not "Checkpoint Friendly".

Sure, I know it doesn't have an exterior pocket for your boarding pass, but you can easily slip that in the center section (between the apparel storage compartment and the laptop compartment) for easy access. That's where I'll put my magazine or book, iPad and boarding pass. SWEEEEEET!

I was apprehensive about the bag, because Amazon writes it's for a 15.6 Inch laptop, but the Targus website claims it's for a 16" laptop. So I was ready to return it if when it came it didn't work with my 15.6" laptop. I'm glad to say that even with a protective sleeve (which has an outside pocket) and the 9-cell extended battery (which takes up more space), it fits, snug but it fits GREAT! AND now I feel better about my laptop (my extended office) traveling through the TSA screening and staying inside my own bag.

First, some context: I love to check baggage. I think checked baggage should be free, and there should be a charge for putting luggage in an overhead bin. So, my simple [but surprisingly difficult to meet] goal is to find a wheeled laptop case that is truly designed to ***fit under the seat*** so I can get to it in flight.

If you have similar goals, then this case might be for you too. So far I've tried it under all three seats of an Airbus 318 and 319, and it fits with room to spare in both orientations. Not exactly the most cramped aircraft made, but since this was Frontier the aisle seats had big "entertainment" boxes under them, yet the bag still fit easily. Based on that, I expect it to also be able to squeeze under older non-commuter jet seats.

And, an unexpected bonus was the zip-check feature. I unzipped and flopped it flat for X-Ray without having to remove anything, which was really handy.

Caveats:

There are no external pockets, water bottle holders, etc., of any kind. Though a slight inconvence (a water bottle fits inside with room to spare), this is a plus for me since external zippers and pouches tend to snag on things when you are ***putting the bag under the seat***.

Also, I think my only quibble is that it really could use a few more pouches and pockets on the internal divider, to prevent losing small things at the bottom of the reasonably roomy "luggage" side of the case.

This Targus laptop carrier was a fantastic purchase for me. We just returned from a coast to coast trip and it functioned as a checkpoint-friendly case just as advertised. In fact, we were shuttled from Oakland airport to San Francisco airport at the last minute on our return flight because they were not able to get us to our first connection in time on our original flight. We were so rushed we had to cut lines in order to get through the baggage and security points at SFO. It was such a delight to be able to unzip the middle and lay out the laptop case without taking out my computer as other people were having to do. The zipper pulls for this layout opening are painted with lines of red so you can easily spot them which is really important and helpful when you are in a rush. (There are 3 sections that zip). Nothing that is packed is opened or visible when you open the case for this layout section.

I have a 15 inch Mac pro with the extra protective shell and there is more than enough room in the computer section to slip this computer in and out. The Velcro closure that secures the computer is a nice feature. The other section provides room for a change of clothes or whatever you want to take with you, and there is a separate section that would hold a couple of files. I used that section for the computer cords. The back side of this divider has two pockets (one that is envelope style with a velcro closure) plus a couple of pen/pencil holders.

The telescopic handle seems thin but it worked easily and I hung another small bag on it for rolling through the airport and had no problems. So it seems strong. I am not a frequent traveler so can't provide information on durability issues. It rolled easily and stood up securely when I left it standing.

I looked long and hard for a rolling computer case that would hold my Mac 15" laptop. I also wanted room for chargers, CDs, mouse, a few files, iPod and other "toys". The Targus Zip-Thru Mobile Elite Roller was the answer. Good price compared to others, too. The fact that you need not take the laptop out of the case for airport security is a big plus--just unzip the middle zipper, lay it flat and you're good to go.

I found it fit perfectly under the seat in front of me, except for the aisle seat which has a narrower space, and then I had to stow it in the overhead. It would also be nice to have an outside pocket to stash a boarding pass or perhaps a magazine for quick access. But other than those two notes, I really think this is a well thought out design.
