I have been searching for awhile for a good, slim, comfortable laptop backpack.

My criteria was:

1) Comfortable. A lot of the cheaper ones are very flimsy and dont have good padding in the straps, shoulders, or for your lower back.

2) Portability. I wanted a bag that was slim, but had the ability to store a few books and a notebook. Some of the other bags on amazon and sold at stores are huge. I didnt need 12 compartments and the ability to carry around a library with me. I was using this bag to carry my laptop and a notebook or two back and forth from work and when Im on travel.

3) Ability to hold my keys, cell phone, water bottle, train ticket, PSP, spare change, business cards, small umbrella, and battery chargers easily and have them easily accessible.

4) Build quality. I wanted something that was going to last and wasnt flimsy.

This bag fits the bill and more! I was a little hesitant because there werent as many reviews for this as there were the other targus bags. I checked out the other targus bags at office depot and office max (I think it was the gravity) and it felt flimsy. The bottom of this bag is solid and the stitching is good. The interior of the bag around the laptop is well padded and you can easily fit a 16" screen in here. The back of the bag is incredible. There is padding, and lots of it, for both sounder blades and lower back padding along with nice and thick straps. I can easily take this on travel and walk around airports and be extremely comfortable due to all the padding.

There are 4 compartments. The largest holds your laptop vertically and has a velcro strap on the top to keep the laptop in place. Its also well padded and has enough room in front of the laptop case to keep a notebook. The second compartment I put a notebook, umbrella, cables, and a writing tab in. It also has a very large netted pocket for putting in cables, CDs, headphones, etc. in it. The third compartment on the front is an accessory compartment. It has two places to store pens, a business card/ID holder, a keychain holder, and a netted pocket to hold my highlighter, pencil, and calculator. It also has a zippered netted pocket where I place all my change and it has a keychain holder which I clip my flash drive onto.
The last compartment is a small one on the front. It perfectly fits my train ticket, my car keys, and my cell phone for easy acces. There are also two pockets on the lower left and right side. Ones a netted pocket for a water bottle and the other one is a zippered pocket which can be used for a soda, watter bottle, keys, cell phone, or anything small.

Overall, I would have paid much more than I did for this backpack. Its slim, light, yet well laid out and can store everything I need and then some. Plus, with the padding on the back, this is the most comfortable backpack I have ever owned.

While other laptop backpacks have minimal padding or sufficient padding at best, this backpack has optimal padding that no only ensures your laptop will be protected at all corners but also provides you, the wearer, optimal comfort with its well-padded shoulders and back (upper and lower). There are a variety of compartments that are all very useful not adding unnecessary bulk but providing exactly what is needed: a tall compartment for documents and folders, a shallow pocket for pens or cell phone, and a compartment with smaller mesh pockets for better organization. The whole backpack is very light. It makes for an exceptional laptop carrier...especially if you need a more secure fit (opposed to a messenger bag), say if you bike to school, work or to the coffee house.

I had been wanting to get the Eco smart version of this bag but, lets just say my bank account didn't agree. I was very happy with the padding provided for the laptop, there is enough to protect the corners of my 15.6in Sony Vaio. There is also sufficient room for all my books, and as a college student I have a lot. This is a very sturdy bag zippers are strong and straps are thick and padded. overall this was a great purchase.

Bought this to replace an old single compartment backpack I got for free at a vendor sponsored offsite. Guess it was about time for me to finally get around to buying a real backpack :)

This is an excellent backpack. I needed something not too big, easy to throw around, sling over the shoulder, toss in the backseat, carry via the handle like a suitcase, prop up in a chair while I rummage through it, etc. -- but still hold a 15" laptop, mouse, power supply, couple books/binders, reading glasses, cell phone, pens, USB key, USB cables, SD cards, car keys, headphones, camera, soft drinks (via the side web pouch), snacks, etc., etc.

And do all that, plus be tough -- easy to operate with dependable zippers and heavy duty pouches and materials throughout.

This backpack does all that. Near perfect combination of size, function, utility, performance, comfort, looks and price.

A few observations after having this for a few days:

PROS
1.) The zippers are smooth and super easy to operate
2.) The backpack is divided into three main chambers -- two for keeping the laptop separate from your books and a third for smaller stuff (cell phone, pens, etc.). Also there are two "quick access" zippered pouches for things you need to get at quickly (car keys, glasses, cell phone); one on the side, one centered on the back where you would expect it to be.
3.) There is a web pouch for sticking a soft drink in (this was a definite requirement for me when shopping for backpacks -- got to have my Dr. Pepper with me at all times).
4.) Comfort level when wearing it is excellent. Great balance/support. Slung over the shoulder works well also (how I wear a backpack half the time).

CONS
1.) A couple of the pouches could have been dimensioned a little more efficiently.
2.) The slot for business cards is pretty much useless

Overall, I am REAL happy with this backpack. If your need/wants are similar to mine, buy it -- you'll LOVE it.

I recently traveled with this backpack. It was very easy to get my laptop in and out of it for security. I wish the capacity were just a shade larger in the other compartment. I use this for my daily commute and carry my lunch and usually a book. It's not quite roomy enough for all that. But if you are just tranporting your computer and some files, it's perfect!

I walk a little over half a mile to the bus stop in the mornings and make the same trip back after school, this backpack has made it seem so much easier! I am in medical school and sometimes will leave around 7am and not be back until 6pm so I require a fair amount of stuff, including a change of clothes for after anatomy lab. Walking in August in Houston is bad enough, but with a heavy, bulky backpack it is much worse. My old backpack would never sit comfortably and would end up digging in to my lower back and my upper back would end up sore from the way I had to carry it. This one completely solves that! I never adjust it after I put it on, and it is comfortable the whole way. I use all the pockets for my laptop, books, small items, and food. It is nice to know that when I go to get one thing out, I don't have to worry about my notecards or cords going flying. I love this backpack, and as long as it lasts, I will be a happy camper. I am considering getting another one for when this one does eventually wear out.

this Targus pakcpack is very cheap, and look nice, it also has a lot of items in it.

Got this very fast (though that is entirely dependent on where you live) and am very pleased with it. It has great padding, certainly better than I expected, and I am pleased with its aesthetic appeal. Fits my 16 inch Asus N61jq-X1 very snuggly, which is nice because I would have been unhappy with any movement. leaves plenty of room for a college text book, maybe some regular books, and some magazines as well as the usual assortment of pencils pens and various smaller items. I can tell where some lighter material was used to cut costs down, but since ill only really be using it for my daily forays onto campus, and light occasional traveling, im not worried at all. A very good buy for the budget.

This backpack is perfect for work environments or schools that require solid-color or mostly-black backpacks. My job requires solid black bags, whether it be laptop bags or backpacks. This backpack has very subtle, light green stitching that doesn't cause any problems with these regulations.

It is slightly smaller than a traditional backpack (as it is intended as a laptop bag/backpack,) but will easily accommodate a 15.6" (widescreen)laptop, with charger, cables, CDs, USB drives AND a couple school books, or an extra set of clothes, or work binders.

The MP3 player pocket can fit pretty much any smart phone or larger MP3 player and has a smaller inner pocket which fits most "iPod Nano" -sized MP3 players.

The back and straps are very well padded, and provide enough comfort for a full load. When worn, it sits a little high on a 6'0" man, but it still looks great and the adjustment straps are long enough for pretty much anyone (within reason.)

Overall, a great backpack for a great price (compare at upwards of 50-60 retail,) has sufficient space for most uses, and enough personality for most people. (Enjoyable green interior!) SOLID construction; high quality.

I've just recently started flying and have a large/heavy 16" laptop. I needed a good backpack to lug my computer around the airport. I've had several compliments on this pack. People wanted to know who it was made by and where I bought it. I don't remember the other reviews but some said it wouldn't hold all they wanted. If it held anymore, I wouldn't be able to carry it. I put in my laptop, wireless keyboard, mouse, charger, neckpillow, suduko and reading books, snacks and other paperwork. If you're a student, it would probably only carry a couple of books depending on the thickness of the books and some other accessories. It has a lot of pockets to help you find the smaller items. I usually move my wallet, checkbook and phone to the backpack and put my purse in my suitcase. I love the quality, exta padding around the computer, padded straps and the lumbar pad. When full, it still fits under the airplane seats. I've had it about 2 years now and it's not treated litely but still looks like new.
