Product Description

The Targus Compact Laptop Charger is 40% smaller than typical AC chargers and is about the size of a BlackBerry. As the smallest adapter on the market, this charger is ideal for travel and is designed to support most Dell, Toshiba, Sony, Lenovo, IBM and Panasonic laptops. Easily power or charge a laptop and one additional item such as a camera, cell phone or MP3 player at the same time. For added convenience the charger plugs directly into the wall and the integrated AC plug rotates 180 degrees, allowing the user to plug the charger into a power strip without blocking other outlets. The plug lies flat for added portability. The thin, lightweight cord packs quickly and easily and includes a cord wrap for cord management. The Compact Laptop Charger also comes with the Tips From Targus Program which supplies users with free tips* for 2nd laptops and/or cell phones and for future laptops and cell phones so the charger remains compatible with new devices.

Targus AC replacement adapter for Lenovo T-series laptops works quite well. The replacement is designed in three parts: the main transformer/power brick; the cord that connects to the power brick, and the Targus adapter. This particular package includes a total of five Targus adapters or tips. The cord between the tip and the power brick also has an adjoining mini-USB plug to charge a cell phone, or any other mini-USB type device. Two complaints: cord is short -roughyl 6' in length, and the design of the power brick. The power brick is rectangular, as shown in the picture. The power brick kind of "hangs" if used on a wall-mounted, outlet. The power brick is an excellent design if used on a crowded powerstrip that's lying flat on a floor. I think Targus designed the power brick with form over function in mind.

Update - 10/30/2010:
Downgrade rating to two stars. My initial positive review of the product has greatly diminished after some actual use. Primary complaints:
Design - both for the actual power transformer and the physical Targus adapter or tip. The connection between the tip and the cord is fragile at best. The cheap plastic on the tip broke and thus making an unsecure connection where the tip becomes disconnected from the cord. I use electrical tape to secure the binding. Go elsewhere for a power replacement, until Targus comes up with a better designed power supply replacement.

This Targus compact charger will charge most every laptop, tablet, phone being used today. The few tips that come with it fit many applications, but not all. You can contact Targus and they will send you what tip/s you need if you register the charger. Targus should have included a micro USB tip instead of a mini USB tip which is not popular anymore. On thing the charger lacks is a lamp that indicates it is working. I think some of the complaints about heating up is because the "charger" is being used as a "power supply". In time I will see how well the connection for the tips hold up.

I was really excited about this because my brick charger is just not portable. While this is nice and small and sleek, the connections aren't tight, and apparently the charger turns off after a certain amount of time? Because I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to charge again. I'm guessing that's a safety feature since it does get quite hot, but I wish it had an indicator light or a beep or something so I knew it had turned itself off before I grabbed my laptop to walk out the door of my hotel room and found it dead.

This is a awesome charger. In fact this is my second one and I have the car adapter version too. It's well made, pretty compact and powerful enough to quickly charge even the big (17"+) desktop replacement model laptops. Good, maybe even great but not perfect. The "charge two devices" feature only works if one of the devices uses the included but no longer relevant mini USB tip. Luckily I have a cooling stand that requires mini USB as its source of power. I tried two low-voltage netbooks at the same time but it was a no-go. The advertising states you can get additional tips to keep the charger up to date with new devices as they come out. EVERY device I've entered (iPhone 5, 5S, iPad Retina, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Tab, etc.) the website reports no tip available yet. Undiscouraged I decide to just order a micro USB tip. I know it's been released, its compatible with a lot of devices and it's free, right? Um no. Each tip is $5 for "shipping & handling" and despite trying three times on three computers three different days in three locations I cannot complete the checkout process due to some technical glitch. Oh well. It's designed for laptops and with all of those included tips I should be well covered I reassure myself. Then my cousin drops by with her Toshiba... Maybe four stars is pushing it LOL

I bought one of these from Targus 2 years ago for $90 for my Sony laptop. It was a small lightweight and expensive computer with a power adapter the size of a brick. This charger is much smaller, plus had a second charger plug. This particular one is sold with a selection of charging tips that do NOT include a micro usb or ipod tip. But it does fit Sony, toshiba and some others, plus has a mini-usb. You can cheaply get a mini-usb to micro-usb converter here at amazon, so I have the computer on the Sony tip and use the mini-usb tip plus a $2 connector to charge my Android phone.

Note that there are other versions of this charger with other tip sets.

Anyway, I have been so pleased with the size and function of the charger that I've bought several extras at this price and left them at other locations where I visit.

BTW, Targus is very helpful - when I broke the little rubber band that wraps around the rolled up cord, all I had to do was call and they sent me a new one.

Only about 18 months since I bought this and the charger does not work. The connection to the wall outlet is very poor. I have tried extension cords and surge protectors to get this to stay in contact, but no joy. I tried to contact Targus for help, but there support line has vey limited hours.

I just got through to their live Chat and Adam is processing a return for me.
