5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a really nice iPad case!
If you're looking for an elegant way to transport your iPad, this is the best option I've found yet.

Basically the pictures provided by Amazon tell you pretty much what you need to know. It's a very nice leather case. Mine is a bit darker and more uniform brown than the picture (and probably not quite as shiny), and there are some slight natural variations...

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy
This was the worst computer roller bag I've ever used and I've been using them for 10+ years now.

It completely flips over when you put your computer or any folders into the case.

Thank you Amazon for a hassle-free return!

If you're looking for an elegant way to transport your iPad, this is the best option I've found yet.

Basically the pictures provided by Amazon tell you pretty much what you need to know. It's a very nice leather case. Mine is a bit darker and more uniform brown than the picture (and probably not quite as shiny), and there are some slight natural variations across the surface as one would expect from a natural hide product.

The inside surface is a smooth fabric as you might find in the lining of a suit jacket. No worries about scratches from it.

The padding is relatively thick so with the iPad in it the whole thing is about 1.5" thick at its thickest point (but you could pinch it down to an inch or so with resistance). It's still well proportioned and looks and feels very nice.

There's no rigid screen shield, so if you sit or drop a big rock on it, you're probably in trouble, but it will provide much better protection (especially from drops) than the standard Apple case or most of the other available cases today.

The tab that goes in the slot to act as a closure has a magnet on it that helps hold it in place when closed, but you have to insert the tab into the slot for the magnets to come into proximity and the effect is rather subtle. the closure is not primarily magnetic, the magnet just helps hold the tab in place.

It has a relatively strong "newly tanned leather" smell out of the package which I'm sure will dissipate before too long. It's a bit harsher and more chemical than what you might associate with the "smell of leather", but not bothersome.

It should be obvious, but this is basically an envelope from which you have to remove the bare iPad in order to use it. There's no way to use it in the case, and the case does not act as a stand for it, etc. Since you remove the iPad from the case for use, it won't have any additional protection from drops or other mishaps while it's in your hands.

I think it's unlikely that you would be able to insert the iPad into this case while it was in another case like a form-fitting skin. Maybe if the second case was very thin and smooth. I definitely could not get it in while in the standard black rubber apple case.

Some people may really like being able to have direct access to the bare device when using it, without any bulky/floppy case attached, but others may prefer one of the other case options which allow you to use it without removing it.

There are no additional pockets or space for other accessories, but there is a business card slot so you can have some ID with your iPad if it goes astray.

Anyhow, this case is everything I hoped it would be when I ordered it, and if you like the idea of this style of case, then you probably won't be disappointed either.

An easy five-star recommendation.

G.

Very Nice! REAL Leather, very well sewn together.

FITS iPad 2 with Smart Cover attached.

A bargin at $50.00. Sophisticated and business conservative.

UPDATE: This case WILL NOT FIT iPad 1 with an iPad 1 Apple case. But it WILL FIT an iPad 1 W/O a case. Just so you know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Case, June 2, 2010

Wasn't sure how this would look, but it proved great! High quality. Very small and light. Bonus: iPad fits even with the Belkin rubber back. Other, larger back will not fit, as it is tight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, professional leather case for your iPad, June 3, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love this case. When I bought my iPad 2, I got the nice leather Apple magnetic cover for it, but it doesn't protect the back of the iPad, so I was nervous about throwing the iPad in my bag or car. I looked around a good bit for a nice brown leather case before finding this one.

I honestly almost didn't buy it because of the brand and price. I thought, how nice can it be for $35? Well, I'm glad I tried it. It's very well made, nice quality leather that looks like it will look even better after a few years of scuffs, and it has a good bit of padding in the case so it will really protect your iPad.

It also has enough room to slide your iPad 2 in the case WITH the Apple magnetic screen cover attached. I use a stylus and my iPad to take notes, and take this into meetings instead of taking a notepad and pen... it really looks nice and gets lots of comments.

If you've been looking for a nice brown leather case for your iPad, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT case!, July 24, 2010
By
mtnmedic (Nevada City, CA) - See all my reviews
I bought the Targus Hughes leather portfolio slipcase brand new at Best Buy for $59 and have been VERY happy with it ever since.

Now, my iPad already has a MacAlly "Flexitpad" clear flexible protective case on it (very much like the Belkin clear "GripVue", only better and it's NOT silicone)- HIGHLY recommend, by the way. Looks great, fits snugly, protects the body and gives the iPad a great grip (the main reason for getting it-the iPad by itself is a slippery devil). Also on my iPad is the Power Support anti-glare screen protector, also very much recommended.

The "Flexitpad" adds only a little bit of extra bulk to the device. Normally, that would present a problem with form-fitting outer cases. However, the Hughes leather portfolio slipcase easily accommodates the iPad with this clear protective case on it. The first few times putting the iPad in and pulling it back out presented with a little tightness but eventually the leather case relaxed and now I have no trouble at all. It's a perfect fit.

This leather portfolio slipcase is VERY nicely made. Solid, quality construction. Great looking, too. Unlike all of the other cases out there, this one doesn't scream "there's an iPad in here!!", making it an easy target for thieves. It just looks like an ordinary professional portfolio case that would normally carry a notepad, papers, etc. The thick leather padding feels nice and is very durable. The cover flap has a tab (with a magnet in it) that slips into a little slot (containing a matching magnet), which works simply and effectively to keep the case fully closed. It really doesn't even need the magnets but they don't interfere with the fit or the function of the device. When the case is closed, not a single part of the iPad is exposed anywhere. Inside the main pouch is a soft silk/nylon lining that you'd find on the inside of a well-made suit. There's a little business card pouch, too. But that's it. Very basic and to the point.

One thing I want to mention about this case: the leather is not only soft and beautiful, it's THICK. Extra protection. I had my iPad in it and set it up on the top of a paper towel dispenser in a men's restroom, about 4' to 5' from the floor, (for lack of a better place to put it) so I could go about my business. I bumped the dispenser and the iPad, in this leather case (as described above), fell flat onto the hard floor, screen-side down. Now, the clear protective case already around it is designed to absorb shock from impact to the back and edges of the unit, but not the screen. I let out a big sigh of relief when I slid the iPad out of the leather case and noticed not a single thing happened to it. It powered right up and has functioned perfectly ever since. That was three weeks ago. I attribute that squarely to this leather case.

Yeah, it's almost sixty bucks. But it's worth EVERY penny. Get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality, nice fit for the i-pad, June 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This leather slipcase fits the i-pad perfectly protecting it from the dust or a bump when carrying it around. It has a small pocket at the front in which you can either fit in business cards or a soft cloth for cleaning your screen. Very professional look. I own a second i-pad and purchased another slipcase but this Targus Hughes ios definitively my favorite.

This is a very nice iPad case. Excellent quality leather, create craftmanship. The stitching is tight, visible but understated.

The case is a tad thicker than I expected it to be, measuring just over 1.2" thick, with the iPad inserted. The extra thickness is due to the padding in the front and back though, which is also something I didn't expect. This added padding adds a bit of bulk, but also adds some protection, so it's a fair trade-off in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sleeve for your iPad!, July 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a great looking sleeve for your iPad or iPad 2! The leather is soft and pliable, but still durable. It's got plenty of room for my iPad 2 with smart cover, and probably has enough room for a snap case as well. The inside is nicely lined, and there is a small pocket to hold business cards. The magnet in the fold-over holds the tab in securely. All in all it's a great sleeve.
