5.0 out of 5 stars Portable Office
After reading the earliest review of this "Targus Notepac-Notebook Case", I reentered my search for it by using the bar code(092636920104). I wanted to make sure we are talking about the same case, and we are. As the most recent reviewer has stated, this must be a newer and updated, and improved version of the case.

I just bought this recently and I love it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fits large computers, but don't expect too much
This bag is roomy enough to fit comfortably even my Dell Inspiron 8100 with 15.1" screen (the dimensions of my laptop are 13.03" wide, 10.8" deep, and 1.75" thick, which is apparently quite large in the laptop universe). However, it's obviously Targus's no-frills model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Portable Office, September 14, 2005
After reading the earliest review of this "Targus Notepac-Notebook Case", I reentered my search for it by using the bar code(092636920104). I wanted to make sure we are talking about the same case, and we are. As the most recent reviewer has stated, this must be a newer and updated, and improved version of the case.

I just bought this recently and I love it. It holds all portable and mobile equipment safely and snugley. I have a 14" screen on my lap top, and I know it is well protected by the nice cushioned padding around the inside section. One of the side pads is velcro adjustable. It forms a compartment where the adujustable shoulder strap sits, but once the strap is removed and used on the case, you can move the padding over(or remove it completely, as the case is cushioned all around) to accomadate a little larger screen(up to 15.4"). Two way zippers keep the case closed nicely.

A ton a storage space. The inside of the top cover has a document sleeve, three scratch resistant Disc sleeves, a pocket shaped for media and mobile gadgets, and another pocket that will hold at least 2 encased CDs. Both pockest fastened with velcro. Good use is made of the outer areas as well. Both sides have plenty of roomy storage areas. A large pocket on one side, has a velcro closing flap and inside of the pocket are compartments for a cell phone, pens, business cards, and a key holder. This section also has room for papers, you may need to get to without opening up the whole case. The other side also is nice and roomy for books(not too thick) and files, and also closes with velcro. I like to keep all my loose papers in here.

The material is sturdy, the case is reinforced at stress points and seems strong. I didn't find the handle to be too hard(maybe this is one of the improvements as well), it has two non skid "feet" on the bottom, which will also protect the case. It's nice looking in black and, has everything you could want for a good portable office. A great buy and highly recommended for those on the go!

Thanks ... Gotta go....Laurie

5.0 out of 5 stars Old Picture, August 21, 2005
Anyone that is holding off buying this because you think you are going to get whats pictured, dont let that stop you. They just have an old picture. I bought this and it is the new version of the OCN1 case. Look on the targus website and you will see what it looks like. The new one is much nice and have places for cds instead of flopyp disks. Hope this helps someone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fits large computers, but don't expect too much, January 21, 2002
By A Customer
This bag is roomy enough to fit comfortably even my Dell Inspiron 8100 with 15.1" screen (the dimensions of my laptop are 13.03" wide, 10.8" deep, and 1.75" thick, which is apparently quite large in the laptop universe). However, it's obviously Targus's no-frills model.

It's quite slim, which can be good for short jaunts, but also comes with some disadvantages. Most obviously, the padding is skimpy. That applies not only to that around the main compartment but also to that covering the handle (made of really stiff fake leather) and the detachable shoulder strap. "Marginal" would be too generous a description; this case is definitely not made for long trips with heavy interiors, not unless you expect to be shifting the bag from shoulder to shoulder or hand to hand every few moments.

Also, there aren't many extra pockets. In fact, there's only one external pocket (the 13" x 9" x 2" one), which opens and closes only by Velcro, and has no sub-pockets. Yes, there are smaller subdivided pockets inside the main compartment where your computer will live, and this compartment nicely opens with dual sturdy zippers along three of four sides. But these smaller subdivided pockets face directly onto your precious laptop itself, without any padding other than the thin film of nylon that holds your extra goodies in place. Personally I would never use those pockets for anything firm and bumpy, even pens, for fear of cracking my laptop's case. That makes those pockets basically unusable unless for soft things like papers, which would fit better in the outer pocket anyway.

There's also a gimmicky removable divider in the main compartment just in case your notebook is so small that you can fit your AC adapter right beside it in the main compartment, in which case you can use the padded divider (detachable by Velcro, of course) to create separate living spaces for those two items. There's also a Velcro strap in the main compartment to restrain your laptop in its living space.

Basically, this case is adequate, for low expectations. But high expectations would include being comfortable carrying the case and bringing lots of additional items, for example if you want this to be your only carry-on piece of luggage. The only way you'd fit your hardback Harry Potter in this bag is if you left your computer at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Made, January 3, 2006
This product is great for travelling. Looks and acts fairly durable, but dont bang it around too much, because it only has a little padding. Case is very light and feels like you are only carrying the notebook around.

As I said the case will prevent against dents, but is not meant for cushioning the notebook against tosses or drops

Has many pockets and places to keep accessories. AND VERY VERY LIGHT. Perfect for on the go

4.0 out of 5 stars I think you will be happy with it., February 21, 2006

I bought this when i bought my widescreen 14 inch notebook, and althugh the computer stretches out the internal "square" for the computer, it would work even better on non widescreen formats. If you have a 14-15.4 inch screen, this bag will hug it very nicely. Plenty of aux pockets for almost anything, inlcuding cd sleeves with a material that doesnt get them scratched up too easily a plus for me. It splits the main compartment into the computer and the side wall which is adjustable depending on the size of your notebook. Otherwise put all your power cables and mouses with ease. velco strap holds the computer in place well, and documents and folders have many places to go also. I noticed the reinforcments on some key joints, which eased my worries about it breaking on me. Its not expensive, so dont expect it to, but it doesnt look shabby either. No one will notice tis a 30 dollar bag thats for sure. It has all the qualities and features of one that is much more, backed by a targus warranty.

If your looking for a bag that can be used as much or as little as you need it, and at a great price, not to mention an established company brand, this is a good choice.

The extended handle of my "Targus OCN700 15 Side Access Notebook Roller" was broken in my first trip. The handle bars were stuck inside the bag and now could be extended only by 2/3 of its full length. Once it was stuck inside, it was impossible to fix or even just check out. I got really disappointed and want to warn anybody considering to buy it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed, January 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The handle was poorly built and when you pull it up or down it tends to get stuck and eventually pinches your finger. When I returned it the seller ended up not refunding the full amount and charging me for shipping for a defective item. Very unimpressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect case for ultraportables, March 2, 2002
By
Ting Ling (Hauppauge, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This is the perfect case for the 3.5lb subnotebooks, it has an extremely durable ballistic nylon exterior that holds up to abrasion, unlike the faux leather/vinyl that readily tears, especially where the strap attaches and rubs against it. Where the vinyl case rapidly looks ragged and beaten up, this case still looks pristine and new.
The compartment is sized for the smaller notebooks, which is its intended purpose- it's not supposed to be an overnight bag; if that's what you need, a different model would be in order.

The velcro on the outer flap is a noisy on opening, but it does hold well-
It has a decent amount of compartments, with an outer flap to hold the accessories such as ac adapter, mouse etc.
Another compartment on the back is great for quick storage of papers and folders.
The hardware and carrying strap is very well made and will hold up to daily use with no problems.

Highly recommended for subnotebook users; very sharp looking case that affords good protection and durability.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully light, not bulky and yet holds all you need, March 7, 2011

I have had and used this bag for years, maybe decades and am buying another one now just for when this one wears out!! I am also going to whip stich the rim around the pad on the shoulder strap where it is coming unsewed after many years of use. The piping is starting to wear on one corner but I LOVE this bag.

The main compartment is only 2.5 inches wide which means either it can hold my laptop or it can hold, as it is now a bunch of files I use regularly, a spiral bound book I use regularly, a book I am reading in residency training, another notebook I use to record clinical pearls, a couple of residency handbooks, a couple of pocket reference books, one of which is definitely too big for even a big white coat pocket, a water bottle, an umbrella (the handle comes out the corner of the bag by the handle in back and it stays neatly in place with the two zippers). The lid part of the main compartment (if you unzip it all the way, which I rarely do, but it occurs to me to try this the next time I go through security and just leave the laptop in the padded bag, I'll bet it actually does follow the security rules...for WAY less than, less than 10%, the price some of the super-expensive luggage companies will sell you a TSA approved bag) still has nice pen holders and card/sticky pad holders and room for transient files, all up top and quite convenient. And that is just the main compartment which is nicely structured and padded without being bulky!!!

You can carry this nice, light bag all around the hospital or wherever you might work all day and since it is not bulky and heavy, your shoulders will not mind. It has this wonderful big, soft/flexible velcro closing pocket which is still classy with some structure on the outside where you can easily fit either computer peripherals, or as I am now, a stethoscope, a sandwich for lunch, and all the tools most docs would need in their doctor bag. STILL, on the other side, there is a nice open flap file slot where you can easily slip in and out a regular size note pad, regular size (8.5x11, legal might work, but not as easily) papers and files.

It is hard to imagine a better, more useful bag for a resident physician, or anyone who needs to stand and walk alot with their bag of just the right amount of stuff.
