5.0 out of 5 stars Affordable and reliable.
I purchased this USB light/fan combo mainly for the fan. I'm one of those guys who is a human heater -- always a little warmer than everyone else. I use this fan when I'm studying in the library, on the computer at a coffee shop or even at home using my laptop at the desk. It provides a nice little jet of air right at my face which makes me feel cooler all over. I can...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Light, Short Life
This is a very well designed light and works very well. You have better control of the light vs. snake neck light types. The quailty of light put out is good and is not so bright as to create glare. There is one major flaw in this light. It has a very short life span. It died after only two months!

I can even direct it right in front of me and only the nose of the rotor head is visible because when the fan is running, of course, you can see right through the blades. The fan runs quietly too. I've had a couple of times when the fan is making a bit of a noise or isn't running a quickly as normal. I just pop off the rotor head, adjust the blades a bit (they are flexible vinyl and I give them a little twist and a crease to make them more rigid as they sometimes get bent in my carrying case), pop the rotor head back on and it's good as new again.

While I like this product a lot, I doubt with frequent use that it will last much more than a year but I still think it's well worth it. My only regret is that I didn't order two or three of these for future back-ups if needed.

The light works well too. It does not illuminate the entire keyboard but in a dark setting it does provide enough illumination for the typical user (a hunt and peck typist may be frustrated but I think it may be enough light for that kind of visibility as well) and definitely enough light to read from a book or hard copy document.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy the fan, don't buy the light, September 19, 2005
This review is from: Targus PA014U Notebook USB Light with Bonus Fan (Personal Computers)
The fan works great, it's quiet and efficient. The light, however, is worthless, it barely shines enough light to tell its working. Another consideration is how tightly the male USB jacks fit in your female receivers on the computer--the weight can make it hard to position if you dont have a tight connection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective but Limited in use, May 10, 2005
This review is from: Targus PA014U Notebook USB Light with Bonus Fan (Personal Computers)
Both items worked well. The light is sufficiently bright to light up a keyboard effectively, while not too glaring, and the fan worked silently with an expectedly light breeze.

The main problem with this item is the price. At $17, a desk lamp would provide far more illumination than the small USB light. Likewise, one could purchase a fan and a lamp for less than $20. Having stated this, the fan/USB light combination is perfect when working in a room where the lights have been necessarily dimmed, such as when presenting a speech/presentation. I have been using the light for around two hours a day for the past 6 months and am pleased to find that the manufacturer's claims in regard to the LED's longevity are holding true.

In conclusion, while both products worked perfectly, they really are limited in use and suitable only for those who spend long hours where a darkened environment is a necessity.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not well designed..., April 25, 2008
This review is from: Targus PA014U Notebook USB Light with Bonus Fan (Personal Computers)
If you need a breeze in front of your face while you're at your computer (and have a usb port in your keyboard) then this device will give you a nice breeze. However, if you need to think while working, this noisy, vibrating fan will likely break your concentration more than once. If using at work, people walking past your office may think you're using a personal device of sorts, from the loud buzzing sound that will likely carry beyond your door. This may or may not improve your inter-office reputation.

The flimsy goose neck design doesn't fit tightly into the usb port, and doesn't support the head of the fan. It's also very fragile, the head will pop right off. You can put it back on, and it may or may not work like before. I improved the amount of vibration noise by tying the goose neck in a loop, and placing padding under the part that vibrates against the desk surface to dampen the noise. I'm in the market for a quieter fan.

I bought two of these at Target on clearance, they were $2.00 a piece. They were totally worth the $2.00. My version is a light and a fan, in one unit.

This product looked light it was one of the best made USB lights/fans out there except the light and the fan burned out after 1 month of use because of overheating.

I purchased two of these and we have had NO PROBLEMS or ISSUES with either the light or the fan. We have had them for about 5 months and the fan operates quietly and is in use for about 8 hours each day. I love that it operates of the USB port. The fan moves the air very nicely and the flexible neck works very well.

The light only provides minimal light for the keyboard. If you are expecting a desk lamp, then this is not for you!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Fan Life, October 18, 2009
This review is from: Targus PA014U Notebook USB Light with Bonus Fan (Personal Computers)
I received this pair of items as a gift. It was shiny and new, still in the box.

I used the fan daily (almost continuously) for two months. At that point, it was dying. I could sometimes get the fan to work by spin-starting the propeller. A week later, no joy. Just flat out dead. I suspect they never designed it for continuous use, but that is what I bought it for: The flexibile cord and USB power allowed me to position it just over my desktop keyboard and below my line of sight keeping me cool and refreshed.

I've since replaced it with a small A/C fan that sits off to the side of my desk--but it's not nearly as effective.

the best option for a USB fan and light small, flexible, is not a powerful fan, but does the work, and the light is jut fine

4.0 out of 5 stars Good little item, February 21, 2009
It works pretty well. Only thing is that the coiled wire could made be a little longer these days since a lot of laptops don't have any USB ports on the rear of them.
