I used this on a recent trip overseas. It performed beautifully out of the box. It came with a variety of tips that plug into my laptop, but I only use one. The rest just kinda sit there. It would have been nice if they had some sort of carry case to keep them all together. Regardless, it's small, very lightweight and plugs right in to the airplane. It also has a cigarette lighter adapter, although I haven't tried that yet. It was a little difficult getting the plug out of the socket on the plane, but I was able to easily coax it out with the leverage of a fork.
I had to make sure that the plane I was riding had the appropriate power plug in the row I was sitting. Many airlines have them in all premium class cabins and several have them in certain rows/seats in economy class cabins. Check with your airline for availability.
I've recently bought a power tip for my nokia phone (from another vendor), but have not used it yet. True, you can't use your mobile phone on the plane, but at least you can charge it for when you land.
As great as this unit is, it does not replace your normal laptop power supply. It runs directly on DC (as opposed to the AC one finds in the wall plugs), so you will still need to tote your traditional power supply around as well.
