5.0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!
I own this keypad, and I must say, it is great. It plugs right into your USB Port via a 3 foot USB cable (which winds up inside the keypad). This keypad has two modes: calculator, regular keypad.

Do exactly as I say and it will work fine:

1. When your Targus keypad is disconnected press and hold the Num Lock button.

2. Connect your Targus Keypad USB cable to your mac USB port (not a hub) while still pressing and holding the Num Lock key.

3. When the Num Lock green LED light goes on, wait for exactly at least three seconds (count 1, 2, 3) then release the Num Lock Key.

4. Now it shouldn't Beep and it will work fine in programs like Excel.

I am typing a bunch of numbers on it as a proof below:
123456789 0 000 . / * - +
It works smoothly.
-----------
I gave it three stars only for being such a hassle to use on macs when any stupid USB keyboard would just work.

I have a MacBook (latest intel black model) running mac OS X 10.5.6
-----------
I hope that was helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!, February 13, 2004

I own this keypad, and I must say, it is great. It plugs right into your USB Port via a 3 foot USB cable (which winds up inside the keypad). This keypad has two modes: calculator, regular keypad.

When it's in calculator mode, it functions just like one. So, if you want to send calculated data to your document, you hit the send button. Additionally in this mode, it has the memory function of the most basic calculators (M+, M-, MRC). It can also do percent, square roots, and pos./neg.

When it's in its regular keypad mode, it's exactly like the numeric keypad on your regular computer (with Num Lock, etc.). It also has a Tab key and a Backspace key, which function just as they would on a normal keyboard.

One of the best plusses about this is that the keys are "built" like your laptop keys. I'm sure you've noticed how laptop and regular keyboard keys are different. These keys are like the ones on your laptop.

I HIGHLY recommend this for my fellow laptop users!

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT for Accountants and other Finance types!, January 30, 2003
By A Customer
If you're a wiz at 10-key, this is NOT the keypad for you. I'm an accountant and the last thing I want to worry about is wondering if the number key I pressed actually registered. My Targus USB Mobile Mini requires me to put the keypad very, very carefully or I'll have missing numbers. I have never experienced this problem on a keyboard numeric keypad -- they all seem to have the tactile response of a calculator. I would not recommend this item, it is sitting in my desk drawer right now. I pulled out my old keyboard and hooked it up to my laptop to get access to the numeric keypad.

4.0 out of 5 stars It Works, September 17, 2003

I certainly wish it were smaller, but I guess that'd be hard to manage while retaining the feel of a normal keypad. The unit works well and adds some features that would probably be handy for spreadsheet work, like enter and backspace keys.

1.0 out of 5 stars Clearly not Mac compatible even though box says it is, April 22, 2008
This review is from: Targus PAUK10U Ultra Mini USB Keypad, Black (Personal Computers)
The packaging for this product says that it is Mac compatible, with no drivers needed. Well, you can't use this thing on a Mac at all -- in some applications it replaces each digit that you typed with a 0, and in others it types the correct digits but produces an error tone each time. There's no way that the company didn't know about this. Targus should be ashamed of itself for purposely putting out mislabeled crap. This is my last purchase of a Targus product.

This review is from: Targus PAUK10U Ultra Mini USB Keypad, Black (Personal Computers)
The product description should be more specific--this product was made with Windows Vista in mind. It is not compatable with Macintosh computers, so I don't know if it's any good or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two useful devices in one, January 14, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I considered buying the less expensive Targus keypad-only version. But getting this keypad means not having to do the math on my calculator, typing the numbers on the keypad, and checking the numbers again. I can do the math on the calculator side of this keypad then transfer the results right from the calculator/keypad, and be done.

This is a full size keypad so my fingers can fly as I crunch those numbers on my laptop. I wondered that with the size of this device why the calculator side uses a button battery. But then I imagine that most handheld calculators use button batteries so why redesign?

When I read the product description and looked at the product image, I thought I better check this keypad on Targus' web site. I felt better after I saw Targus' information. I ordered this item from Amazon and I shared the images of what I got with this keypad. Check it out.

I ordered this item from Amazon even though I could order it from other retailers. I have not had problems ordering from Amazon and returning items (which I have done for both a broken laptop on delivery and a lens hood not needed since it is included with the lens I also ordered).

This item is a keeper.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not work right out the package, January 9, 2007
By
I bought this brand new via Amazon from Tiger Direct. Three of the keys stuck when pressed and had to be pried up. A fourth key didn't register anything even when pressed. I can't comment on how well it works connected to a computer as given the problems I haven't even connected it. I contacted Targus to obtain a authorization number (as directed by Tiger Direct) and they had no idea what we were asking for and suggested we just return it to Tiger. Tiger will not allow us to return it without an authorization number! Therefore, I am stuck with it and recommend you don't fall into the same trap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suitable for laptops, May 7, 2007
By
This review is from: Targus PAUK10U Ultra Mini USB Keypad, Black (Personal Computers)
I recently purchased this device as my laptop didn't have a numeric keypad. As I do alot of accounting on my pc, having to use the numbers on the pc prove to be very difficult. But the Targus keypad solved all my problems, it's very easy to use, small and the two available USB ports, even though they are 1.0 makes it the best additive for my pc. It's a must have.
