3.0 out of 5 stars It is what it is Silly Buns! July 28, 2009
It's a $10-$15 mini travel tripod(If I could underline that I would). It can extend to a good height considering; and, you get what you pay for. It can be strong in it's shortest position and that's where I use it mostly. I have a standard $30ish 60" but this guy I use to handle what the big guy can't. I bought it purposely to bike 7 miles to the outskirts of my small town and walk around the carnival for a few hours, stopping to shoot, carrying all my gear. Naturally the two foot folded tripod would have made that a much more trying experience.
My personal opinion about the uses are for smaller cameras or lighter ones. I use a Fuji finpix and an Olmypus 520 (touted as the lightest DSLR on the market.) Pulling it all the way out with one of the heaver cameras may be "mild headache" advised (not quite "ill" advised) but it can be done. However I would not walk too far away while doing so for fear of watching it tip forward and splat while you run at it too late with a look on your face that is funny to everyone but yourself. Even with the smaller consumer level cameras I would still advise one to be careful with this tripod in it's full extension.
It has it's uses and for the price, unless you are a vampire/photographer, I think those occasional times when a tripod is needed the weaknesses of this product are justified. However buying an $800 tripod for your $80 Sony may not be so.

The tripod is actually very good for a almost any modern point and shoot camera. Not for use with big heavy SLR's.
- VERY compact and light weight. You can carry it anywhere even in your back pocket.
- When retracted the tripod acts like a nice handle making it easier to hold your compact camera.
- Just high enough to get the shots you want.
- Adjust to almost any angle even in difficult condition.
- Much, much better than asking a stranger to get a shot for you. Most people DO NOT know how to compose a picture.

I have taken this tripod on numerous trips and every single time it has done a wonderful job. Without it we would have had not been able to get the wonderful photos we have now. This tripod is relatively delicate but works well once you understand how to retract the legs. I almost broke mine the first time. Make sure you line up the grooves on the on the telescopic legs to the notch on the upper legs. If you use it on the beach make sure you wipe of the sand from the legs or it will get jammed. Over all, be gentle and it will work well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and portable --- May 16, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a NICE item if you're going on a long trip and you need an extremely portable tripod. We're going on a cruise next week and decided we'd like a tripod to take pictures of ourselves with grandiose backdrops -- without always bothering other people to take our picture. I chose this one because it is both compact and extends a little higher than the next closest model.

The first one I received was broken in the package. Actually, it looked like it had been shipped to someone else, broken, returned to Amazon then reshipped. But upon reporting this to Amazon I was provided free return materials and a replacement was shipped same day. I just received the replacement and, after getting out of the clam shell -- always frustrating -- I discovered WHY the other one was broken....

The mounting platform rotates 90 degrees so that a camera can be easily attached, however, if one simply attempts to do the 90 degree rotation, it is locked in place. If one tried to muscle it, that's how it could get broken. There is a spring loaded lock and one must push against the spring before attempting to rotate 90 degrees to mount the camera. This is very subtle, however, once you get the hang of it, it should give excellent service.

It meets all my needs of size and weight and ability to support small cameras. We have a small Nikon Coolpix and a Panasonic HD movie camera. It supports both of those (not at the same time) perfectly well. If you've got a 3 part Technicolor movie camera that weighs 200 lbs -- this isn't for you. But for most digital cameras that an individual might actually use on a vacation, it seems perfect -- what with luggage weight limitations, etc.

This is a nice tripod, and you can't beat the price or the small size. Previous versions seemed to be a little more smooth operating. It holds small cameras very well. Read more
