5.0 out of 5 stars A light, slim, and well made case
I just got this case a week ago for a new 14.1" laptop, and so far I've been very pleased. I had four main requirements: good protection, top-loading, light weight, and slim. So far, this case has met all of these requirements.

3.0 out of 5 stars good bag, but...
The bag is good. However, my laptop only fits in if you remove the lateral padding. Advertizing should make it clear that the larger laptops Targus claims that fit in the bag really only do if you remove some of the padding. Wasn't too happy about that, but this is my only complaint. Happy about the rest.

(REAL NAME)
I just got this case a week ago for a new 14.1" laptop, and so far I've been very pleased. I had four main requirements: good protection, top-loading, light weight, and slim. So far, this case has met all of these requirements.

My previous case was for a larger laptop and had a built-in portfolio. I found that I rarely used the portfolio, and that it just added extra size and weight. This case, combined with a light laptop, is no longer a chore to carry around. The slim size also makes it easier to handle.

This model is equipped with the air padding. These are removable foam-filled air pockets that fit along the bottom and sides of the case. They have tiny vents in them to allow the air to escape slowly to absorb any shock, and the foam will push them back out to their normal shape. The system seems like it will work, but I haven't had any occasion to test it.

The construction seems to be of good quality. All the seams seem to be well sewn, with no loose threads. The bottom has three plastic feet to help balance it when its standing. All the fittings seem solid and secure.

This case doesn't have a ton of extra room. It is designed to be a small case for carrying the computer and a few accessories. This meets my needs very well, but if you need to carry more than the bare essentials, I would recommend a larger case.

4.0 out of 5 stars they're not kidding when they said "ultra-lite", September 28, 2005

i've had this case now for almost a month now, and i must say i really do love it. its best feature is the fact that the strap has a swivel feature to it at the point where it connects to the bag, which allows the strap not to get twirled and twisted. if only it had a separate built in compartment for the power adapter, i would've given it 5 stars.. because right now the charger just loosely sits inside giving it a "bulky, jutting out" feeling. you get used to it after a while though. i haven't started carrying my cd case in this yet, so i'm sure it'll feel bulkier once that's in there.. but then compromises are to be made if you want this bag to be "ultra-lite" and also capable of holding bigger 'n better things.

overall though, a definite recommendation from my end if you're not planning to carry too many additional accessories.

4.0 out of 5 stars A case that should meet most needs, August 15, 2005
I bought this case primarily on the recommendation of other satisfied buyers. The phrase Ultra-Lite is not accurate especially as it may imply less sturdiness. This case should do a very good job protecting your notebook for most day-to-day situations.

2.0 out of 5 stars Coming apart after9 months, January 30, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Targus TTL500 15 TL Universal Notebook Case (Personal Computers)
This laptop case is big enough for my computer and projector but after only 9 months it looks atrocious. The handles are coming apart and the slightest abrasion and it gets all "furry" with threads. Cheaply made and I paid way too much for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 15 ultralite case, June 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a very well made and light carrying case. It has replaced another case which was more security screening friendly, but is much more useful. It seems to be half as heavy as the other case and I can still carry everything I need. I like the construction. I like the looks. I apparently like everything about this case. I have one similar to it for my 14" laptop. Targus makes the best equipment. Thanks. Kg

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic case! I wish I would have purchased one sooner!, August 15, 2009

I have been using the standard issue black Dell laptop case for the last 5 years--the same one that you see dozens of people carrying at every airport in the US. I previously thought the Dell case was decent, despite a few flaws that I thought were minor.

After seeing the Targus case, I now realize that I was unknowingly suffering with the Dell case.

First, the case is exactly what I was looking for. Something slim, compact and basic, lightweight, and more easy to tote around or take with me to the coffee house. Very nice design allows the case to be compact, yet have a surprising amount of room if you choose to use it. One of the reasons I wanted a smaller / thinner case was to force me to carry around less junk with me. My Dell case seemed to be so heavy, and after cleaning it out, I realize that I had a ton of little things that I didn't really need. They didn't seem to take up much space, so I kept them, "just in case".

Well, the Targus puts you on a diet and forces you to carry just the essentials, which is exactly what I wanted. My Dell Latitude D620 fits perfectly in the case, and the 65W power supply, to my surprise, fits nicely in the bottom of the main pocket without making it bulge. My wireless mouse tucks in the bottom next to the power supply, and I'm able to fit a few other items (USB drive, Advil, etc.) in one of the mesh pockets. There are two zippered mesh pockets in the main compartment, so there is plenty of capacity if you do want to bring along some extras.

There are two business card pockets, of which I will only use one, but if you collect a lot of cards on your travels, they would probably be handy. And in very minimalist fashion, there are two elastic loops for a pen/pencil right at the top of the case--very handy placement. But of course there is plenty of room in the mesh pockets if you wish to carry more.

The two outer pockets are thin, and good for holding a magazine, thin notebook, or pad of paper, etc. The only minor design flaw is that pocket is not very deep, so you can't use the velcro closure if you have a pad of paper or even 8.5 x 11 paper in the pocket. It would have been nice to have a design that could have some type of closure to prevent such things from sliding out.

The two handles are very well designed. They are short enough so that they don't get in the way, but are also always standing up on top of the bag, making it easy to grab the case.

And the best feature is the strap. I suffered with the horribly designed strap on my old Dell case, so this strap is heaven by comparison. The padded area of the strap has rubber dots to help grip, and the padding is curved to fit better on your shoulder. Also, the padded area is part of the strap, not a sliding pad like the Dell. This is such a huge improvement for me that the strap alone was worth the purchase.

Finally, this case is amazingly inexpensive. $27 on Amazon is a steal for this product. I was thinking I would need to look at Tumi or other high-end brands for a good case, but the Targus was a wonderful surprise.

I highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars I kill it every 2 years -- but lifetime warranty!, January 3, 2009
This review is from: Targus TTL500 15 TL Universal Notebook Case (Personal Computers)
I stuff the case full of books, folders, papers, and anything I may need (yes my notebook computer too) -- and I try to be careful about zipping it up gently and so forth, but nonetheless zippers start pulling from the seams after about 2 years. Not sure if other cases would be sturdier but the amazing thing about Targus is their lifetime warranty -- I send in the disintegrating case and in about 3 weeks they send me a brand new one! Can't complain about that kind of service!

5.0 out of 5 stars Targus TUL300 case near perfect, August 24, 2008
By
Very, very light, attractive, a seperate, cushioned computer compartment, top opening (computer can be pulled up and out easily), a cushioned contoured shoulder strap that works to keep it on your shoulder comfortably ... what's not to like?

This is a perfect case as long as you don't need to carry a lot of thick stuff in addition to the computer. After the computer is inside, the remaining room is about 2" wide at the bottom. The external pockets will only accommodate things like a newspaper or a magazine.

It is a very handsome case, light weight and accomodates every thing perfectly, and so easy to carry around. Looks as it also is sturdy and will last.
