I had a Targus case for my previous iPad 3 and loved it, so much so that I bought a second for my granddaughter and then everyone in the extended family bought the same thing! Imagine my disappointment when I got my new iPad Air case. :-( It is plastic! I bought the case with the keyboard and that part is okay. The trouble is that I don't always want to have the keyboard in so I remove it. Doing that, the case flops about and doesn't stay closed. Boo Hiss!! I think if they had kept the same kind of lining and exterior, no problems, but that is not what happened. It feels cheap and flimsy. It does hold onto the iPad with a death grip with the plastic shell on the back. I guess I just don't like the design and feel of it after I had their previous case. If I were you, I would definitely examine one in person before purchase.

I agree with a previous reviewer that the quality in this product seems embarrassing. I did not purchase it yet, but took it out of the box and looked at it extensively when at a local retailer.

However, I am going back to the store to purchase this. While that material is cheap, Targus is well known for quality products. After the fact, I realized that the material is cheap, but it's also super light - perhaps that's the goal they were going for.

I purchased a ZaggKeys Folio & Case, and really dislike the clamshell affect - which makes it tip over. It's also heavy, defeating the purpose of the "Air" in my opinion. The Targus Versavu has the design of the old ZaggFolio, which I love and still use today (until I upgraded to the Air, anyway). I also like that the Targus rotates 360 degrees, and has varying angles if there are light issues.

I work in IT and manage and support thousands of mobile devices (and mobile environments) globally for my company. It's absolutly critical that I find, test, and provide recommendations on accessories. While this device does seem "cheap," it also seems to meet the needs of the corporate environment - our users need cases that protect, have "full" keyboards, rotate, and lay correctly on a table or lap. This device seems to meet those needs.

The ZaggKeys case that I purchased was super cheap too - almost snapped the little piece of plastic by the volume button before I put my new Air in teh case. It's also considerably heavier - corporate environments don't care about the different colored light behind the keyboard, they require functionality.

If I'm going to spend $ on something cheap, I would prefer it meets my requirements.

I'm using the case right now, and I like it. The keyboard is sturdy and easy to use, I don't think my typing speed is any slower.

Pros:

1. easy to use on my lap, so I can type away on the couch with a lightweight "laptop" instead of an actual computer, which would be more awkward.

2. Adjustable - you have a LOT of different angles to choose from, so the ipad can be upright or angled farther back, depending on your preference.

3. Sturdy - this case is made of thick plastic, and the iPad snaps in very securely. It also fits nicely into a "groove" like many other cases, so I dont worry that tapping around on the iPad will make it topple over or anything.

4. Portrait mode - this case has an extremely stable portrait mode, which is great for when I am writing a paper. I think it's really cool that it's so stable on your lap in portrait mode. I don't think there's any other case out there that can do this.

cons:

The only con I can see is that it is difficult and awkward to take the ipad out of the case. I tend to use my ipad like a computer when I'm in work mode and then I like it without a case for surfing the web, reading books, etc. I did manage to get it out of the case, but it took a couple minutes. Hopefully I'll get better at this as time goes on.

Overall, I think this is a well-designed case, and definitely sturdy enough for frequent use. I'm not sure what the other reviewers are on about...

This cheap piece of plastic garbage is nothing like the prior Targus Versavu for the prior generations of the iPad. I specifically purchased this for the iPad air because I like the prior model so well. This is a total ripoff made of the cheapest plastic you can imagine and no way would I trust something as costly as the iPad Air to be protected by this junk.
Avoid this product at all costs. The company should be ashamed of themselves!

I was a fan of the targus brand having owned one for my iPad4. When I got this case for my iPad Air, I could understand why there was a negative reaction to how 'cheap' it felt. The case was made out of molded material and didn't seem to have the substance of the earlier versions, but I liked the idea of a lighter case for a lighter iPad.
Now that I've owned it a few months, I'm not happy. I liked that the keyboard could slide out of the case, but now it slides too easily and the iPad collapses flat when I'm working on it because the keyboard slides right out of the rails it sits in.
The keyboard itself works great, synchs every day with no difficulties, although I sometimes hit the lock key when I'm reaching for the delete key.
Now I'm looking to find a case that can hold the iPad and just have the keyboard separately. It's either that or glue in the keyboard to the base so it doesn't slide out at all.
