5.0 out of 5 stars worth it for the cute Hanson-Roberts deck alone!, February 19, 2004

this is a terrific set to get someone as a gift - or for yourself! I love the smaller sized Hanson-Roberts deck - the original deck is smaller than average to begin with, but the one included here is adorable and pocket sized, yet still big enough to use for readings. the book is of course very basic, little more than a "LWB" (the little white book included in tarot decks) but worthwhile for a memory jog, and good for beginners. I would certainly get another book to go with the set if you are learning, I recommend Mary Greer's Tarot for Your Self.

I think this is a very good value for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for beginners and travel, July 26, 2003

This review is from: Tarot to Go! (Activity Book) (Petites Plus) (Hardcover)
I am fairly new to tarot cards and have several full size decks and a couple of books. I just bought this set because I am going on a trip and thought this would be perfect to take along. I like the cards, they are small, but not too small and the little guide book is perfect for beginners. It gives you just enough information, but leaves plenty of room for your own interpretations. A great value and I would recommend it highly.

If you love the Hanson-Roberts (one of my top 5 decks) then this very portable and mini deck is a must have. Fits perfectly into a pocket, purse or your car. Never be without a deck! And the quality of the cardstock is great, as well as the printing and colours. I compared my full-size with this one and they look exactly the same.

With this price you can't go wrong if you adore this faerie-tale deck as I do! I wouldn't reccommend this as a first deck (this size I mean, the normal size Hanson-Roberts is an EXCELLENT first deck for beginners) as you would want something bigger to soak up all the glorious imagery.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love these cards, April 30, 2009

I had this deck for years but lost one of the cards so I bought a new set. I use the cards for many workings not just for (and rarely for) readings. The symbolism in these cards may seem rather childish and cartoon-like but have tremendous power if used correctly. They are also small enough to take anywhere, smaller than a standard size deck. The miniature book is also useful (which comes with the deck) and they come in a handy little box. The symbolism is very straightforward. Much better than any deck I've used.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice gift set for collectors, March 12, 2009
This review is from: Tarot to Go! (Activity Book) (Petites Plus) (Hardcover)
This package includes the Hanson-Roberts Tarot and The essential book of TAROT.

The Hanson-Roberts Tarot is a lighthearted redrawing of the Rider-Waite Tarot by Mary Hanson-Roberts. The penciled artwork is slightly cartoonish, and the scenes are rendered much closer than the Rider-Waite tarot. The result is a tarot deck that even as being pocked-sized is still easy to read, to study and to appreciate. Some of the symbolism had been traded off for the close up shots, which may be a turn off for some tarot collectors, but still makes it easier for beginners to use.

Each card in this deck are labeled in five languages within a small white scrolls at the bottom. The English label is most prominent than the others, most of the time presented in the middle of the scroll. The Major Arcanas are numbered, starting at 0 for The Fool and roman numerals for the remainder Major Arcanas.

The essential book of TAROT by Rosalind Simmons is essentially a small hard covered illustrated version of the Little White Book that usually comes with tarot decks. Albeit being a cute book, it slightly hinders the portability of the pocket-sized deck. However, it works well as part of this gift set.

This set is recommended for those tarot collectors who like pocket-sized tarot decks. Other decks by Mary Hanson-Roberts:
The Essential Tarot: Book and Card Set (Gift Boxes)
Hanson-Roberts Tarot Deck
Universal Waite Tarot Deck
Universal Waite Tarot Deck and Book Set
Universal Waite Pocket Edition
Tiny Universal Waite Tarot

I absolutely love this deck and book. For me as one who is studying and learning the tarot, out of the three decks I own these are the best. When I do readings for people (friends and family and so on), I like to use that book as a quick guide, for two reasons, To really help me learn each card and also I want others to know I have a reference, that I am not creating my OWN interpretation, but it is what it is, I have been 99% accurate so far with these cards and people are just amazed at the energy they hold.

I love this little deck of The Hanson Deck. The Artwork is beautiful and the cards are easy to take anywhere. The Little Black book of Tarot goes well with this deck.

well this deck would have to be my first deck of tarot cards. I haven't really read any books about tarot before buying this item and i think its sort of nice. But i dont suggest it for beginners. If your starting to get into tarot cards for the first time dont get this, because all this (deck + book) does is give you the main idea of tarot. I tihnk its best for a beginner to know about EVERY DETAIL.But other than that its a nice travel size for the "on the go" tarot reader.

I bought this at a funky little book store near my vacation place and left the deck at my vacation place. I tried others for home and they couldn't compare. I was so glad to find the same little complete easy to use set on Amazon!

I got this for a birthday gift two years ago, and though it is a small set, I was and am hugely happy with it, being a (very) long time fan of the original HR deck. I love that you can actually use this deck, it's not just a novelty like the Tiny Universal Waite or anything. I can stick it in my purse, and truly have a Tarot to Go! I love that the handy woman I get Tarot bags from lon eBay had some featured that perfectly fit the larger and smaller HR decks!

As others have mentioned, the book that goes along with this set it very basic indeed, but if you already know and love the art in the HR deck, you will certainly be happy just to look at the visual design of the book, which shows the art arranged in many attractive ways. I'd love to know who at Peter Pauper Press came up with the idea of just this deck for the concept, because I would surely like to thank them
