Book Description

December 18, 2007
This scholarly work creates a new epoch in traditional occult philosophy. It is the first contemporary encyclopedic exposition of the great Western Tradition since the basic books by Eliphas Lévi and Papus, and it also has full practical utility. The Philosophical Tarot has always been recognized as a universal key to all wisdom attainable by human beings. This text will be of particular interest, because of its kindred approach, to the many readers of the extraordinary contemporary masterpiece Meditations on the Tarot, by an anonymous writer much valued in esoteric circles throughout the world. The present work is by no means just a theoretical treatise accessible only to specialists, for anyone can understand the initiatory concepts of Mouni Sadhu's Tarot, perceiving completely new horizons of thought, activity, psychology, cosmology, and practical esotericism. In this text a great number of questions which occur to the earnest seeker are answered in a new and fascinating way, and the solution of the philosophical equations arising from the Arcana opens new vistas in every field of life. The book is suitably subdivided into 100 separate lessons, allowing for systematic study.

About the Author

Mouni Sadhu is the mystical name taken by Dymitr Sudoski, a noted Occultist and Mystic of the first half of the Twentieth Century. The word “mouni” means silent and “sadhu” refers to a wandering holy man. The author has tried many paths on the route to self-realization, and is uniquely qualified to relate the truths in this book. Steeped in the Hermetic schools which abounded at the turn of the 19th century, then embracing the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi and Vichara—yet never forgetting his Catholic faith—Mouni Sadhu successfully advances our mental synthesis and leads us to the door of True Self. Mouni’s writing was based not only on rigorous study of the texts of his day, but on personal experience and diligent practice. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wheat from chaff, September 20, 2007

This is an intense course on Western metaphysics that uses the Tarot as a way to explain principles and concepts of subtle energetics. Even with the intentional blinds and the use of a traditional structure the author " Mouni Sadhu" managed to write up the lab book of his Magnum Opus and thus to shed light on the paths of those who follow. It is good to see that this work is being kept in print.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting for symbolic knowledge, August 24, 2009
By
Pablo S. (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
The book focuses on the meaning behind the major arcana. It seems to be an excellent source for learning about the symbolism behind the cards, as well as complimentary ideas on Hermetism, ocultism, etc. Although that, on my understanding, it doesn't intend to be a practical guide on how to read the cards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old Truths, January 3, 2012
This review is from: The Tarot: A Contemporary Course of the Quintessence of Hermetic Occultism (Hardcover)
I have been aware of this book since the early seventies, and as a lifetime occultist, recommend it highly.
One possible point of confusion in this work is the numerical arrangement of the tarot trumps;placing the
#0 card;the Fool in a different numerical position than normal.Although this arrangement is not unknown(or
unworkable),in recent years followers of the Western Tradition have gravitated toward a more apparent, sensible
numeration sequence.Nevertheless, the true value of the work lies in it's observations of the nature of the
trumps;how they affect thought processes and emotions, and even practical exercises designed to aid in understanding
and stimulating the related abilities and insights that the tarot can bring. All of this makes this work an excellent
study, and can help greatly in bringing it all"down to earth",regardless of how well it may align with some other
systems. All of the old truths are there, offered with genuine insight, and are a great addition to the tarot section
of any library.
