TAROT--THEMED SPAINISH POWER METAL,

This review is from: Tarot (Audio CD)
Here's an interesting album--all the tracks are titled after a card in a tarot deck. But even if you don't know much about tarot (like myself), you can still find a lot of pleasure in this tarot--themed album from these Power Metalers from Spain (hence Spainish, so you do don't go thinking they're from Mexico).
The album prepares you for the upcoming greatness with the instrumental intro "The Magician", which, as far as intros go, is pretty good in my opinion, although it is very short. Next up is the first track with vocals (both male and female) and, boy, is it a killer! "The Chariot" is very upbeat and the female vocals (in the background) add so much to this already great song. "The Star" is pretty average for the first part, but the bridge has some truly amazing guitar work. "The Wheel of Fortune" is just as good as "The Chariot" while still maintaining its own identity. "The Emperor" has some really interesting choir parts and some lyrics that I found hard to follow at times, but still a great track, all in all. "The Devil in the Tower" starts off very mysterious and features a great chorus. "Death" is where this musical genius starts to winds down. It has some good parts, but not as good overall as all the preceding tracks. The other tracks didn't really stick out for me, so I won't comment on them, with the exception of "The Moon", which features parts of "Moonlight Sonata" and other well-known classical pieces. This song drags on and on, though, and I felt the vocals detracted from the over-all effect. Maybe it would have worked as an instrumental piece. The booklet is very interesting, too, as it features the lyrics on the left and a picture of that tarot card for which the song is named after, on the right side. Overall, this album is highly recommended if you're into bands like KAMELOT, BLIND GUARDIAN or even RHAPSODY (minus all the cheesy lyrics about elves and all that).

This is their finally waited breakthrough album, which doesn't leave die-hard fans or other ones cold. The Magician gives you something to what is about to come. The Chariot sets the tone like a freight train from coast to coast. The Star continues with full power from where The Chariot ended. Wheel Of Fortune is very similar, just like The Star, but not in poor or bad way...just the opposite. The Emperor carrie's as all as previous songs. The Devil In The Tower is really mystical song than other...between calm and storm. Compeletly different than the others. The Death drives you to the dark side. How dark ? Well, that's up to you to figure it out. Lovers brings out the best of Manda's solid`n`clear voice, just like in all the others songs. Hanged Man, The Moon and The Fool ends this phenomenal album in really great way. Great BRGEAK THROUGH !!

Pretty solid power metal,
This review is from: Tarot (Audio CD)
This is pretty good. Some of the songs are pretty repetitive, especially the keyboard parts. The Devil in the Tower is an awesome exception to this rule however. Some of the singing parts also sound a little rushed, like they were cramming too many words in a particular line. The most obvious example is on the Chariot, in the chorus.
Overall, a good album to get if you have every really good power metal album already.
