5.0 out of 5 stars Tarot Decoded by Liz Hazel, May 29, 2004
By
This review is from: Tarot Decoded: Understanding and Using Dignities and Correspondences (Paperback)
Liz Hazel is a very experienced Tarot reader and astrologer. In her book "Tarot Decoded", Liz explains the use of dignities. Liz writes clearly and in plain English about how you can use correspondences with the elements, the planets and the signs of the Zodiac in your Tarot readings.

Liz also describes how important it is to pick up on numerical combinations and sequences in a Tarot reading.

This is a terrific book for anyone who's interested in Tarot and astrology. The theory is very patiently explained and the book is full of practical advice, presented in clearly written worked examples. I'd recommend it for any Tarot readers who want to get to know more about astrology.

It would also make an excellent introduction to Tarot for people who already know the basics of astrology. But if you're a beginner to both fields, then this is probably not the book for you.

On every page, you can hear the voice of the author speaking to you with knowledge and authority. You really feel that Liz wants you to become a better Tarot reader. She's trying to get us to deepen our understanding of the way that the elements interact with each other. This is a really superb reference book to go back to again and again.

Nothing is there for show and nothing is wasted in Liz's writing. Every image is well chosen and straightforward.

There's a wealth of information in this book but it will take work to get to grips with it. For example, all the sample readings use the astrological glyphs for the planets and signs. If you're a complete newcomer to astrology, you'll have to give yourself some time to get to know the glyphs. In my experience, this is time well spent.

Liz uses the Golden Dawn correspondences and although she's not dogmatic about using this system rather than any other, she does say that the Golden Dawn attributions represent, "a good starting point".

The book is all about attributions so there's no discussion of reversals. All the cards are shown as upright in the example readings.

The appendices contain tables of Major Arcana, Court Card and pip card attributions and throughout the book there are wonderful diagrams such as the horoscope diagram of Court Card attributions showing the Zodiac signs with their associated pip cards and Court Cards by decan.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Tarot Books, December 11, 2004

This review is from: Tarot Decoded: Understanding and Using Dignities and Correspondences (Paperback)
I have been reading, learning, and using the Tarot for nearly 20 years. Elizabeth Hazel's excellent book, "Tarot Decoded" offered a very clear, insightful commentary on the interrelationship between astrology and Tarot. This book is really fantastic, and any serious student of Tarot would do well by getting a copy.

The book is very well constructed, and extremely informative. I find myself referring to it quite often. This is one of the best Tarot books I have. A good investment!

When I began reading Liz Hazel, immediately I fall in love with her language management. She has an outstanding dominion of Tarot and Astrology; she makes easy the blending of both. She is very precise and at the same time poetic and evocative. I had been reading and studying tarot for many years and I own a respectable collection of tarot books. Liz book is the best book that explains dignities, sequences and modes. She has a talent for writting and teaching. Will be looking forward for her next book.If you do not know much Astrology, anyway you will understand everything she explains and you will be motivated to look up and learn Astrology. www.auroradiaz.com

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book is really in depth and loaded with incredible information, March 3, 2007
This review is from: Tarot Decoded: Understanding and Using Dignities and Correspondences (Paperback)
Tarot Decoded is really a great piece of work for beginner or professional reader. No one has broken the info down about the zodiac and its realtion to the tarot like Ms. Hazel she really knows the zodiac inside and out and its application to the tarot. She provides info on the court cards that make you say mmmmmmmmmm never thought of that before as well as the Major Arcanum and there planetary rulers of the zodiacal Trumps as well. She explains it very detailed but no to over the top her knowledge is truely her own not a repeat of the same old info from so many other authors. I would advise every tarot follower to get this book for there own growth and understanding of how important the Zodiac and Tarot function together. Kevin T.

An interesting and thought-provoking book. Will help intermediate or better readers add some new techniques to their bag of tricks. Might be a little confusing for tarot newbies.

The book is well thought out and easy to read. Her explanations are clear nd she has examples.

I've actually adopted a couple of her techniques into my readings. Can't say anything better than that!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Try again, December 17, 2010

This review is from: Tarot Decoded: Understanding and Using Dignities and Correspondences (Paperback)
Another tarot book that is broad and superficial in its treatment, a good review for people with G.'.D.'. background looking for a cliff notes type of manual for tarot attributions. But if you're completely new to tarot, this is not a good starter book. I also think this could've been expanded into a more comprehensive manual. There's lots of good ideas, but some could use more exposition. For example, in the Numeric Dignities chapter, she starts with sets and sequences and then briefly stirs in some modality and elemental effects on the topic. That could and should be a whole separate chapter. I blame the editors for that faux pas. I got the feeling that the publishers threw this together as a pastiche of a larger body of work as an effort to getting out of the red rather than putting out a helpful book on the subject. A worthy author and topic that warrant a little more TLC.

This book is not for the *Beginner*. I have been reading for nearly 40 years and am still learning. There is a plethora of information in this book that requires serious studying and committment. I have to study a little, then walk away to absorb. I'm still working with this book.

If you're looking for deeper meaning for your Tarot readings, this is THE intermediate book to own. It covers numbers, planetary signs and other patterns within Tarot cards, then shows you several example readings using the new information. The samples are invaluable and really bring together all the chapter contents.

This is a very informative and easy to understand text. It covers Astrology, Court Cards, and some excellent spread reading techniques. The charts and tables in the apendix section are priceless. Tarot Decoded is hands down the best book on the market covering elemental dignities and correspondences.
