This review is from: El Gran Tarot Esoterico (The Great Esoteric Tarot) Tarot Card Deck (Spanish Edition) (Cards)
I bought this deck after reading that it was one of the first specifically Spanish Tarots. Although the artist has imitated the crude designs of the Marseilles Tarot, he has also added many new drawings. However at first glance I see nothing specifically Spanish in these cards, but rather a large collection of modern esoteric symbols. Due to the violence of some scenes I don't believe it adequate for public readings unless a client specifically requests a deck that breaks the rules. The numbered suits also do not relate uniformly to the traditional elements, especially the swords, which show water scenes. The result of these peculiarities is a jarring but somehow fascinating deck of cards. I doubt it will be my principal deck, but I believe Luis Pena Longa has been able to draw inspiration in the Marseilles without being bound by it. For this reason I enjoy the Great Esoteric Tarot and I am happy that it forms a part of my collection.
