'Tarot For Every Day' is a book designed to help the reader bring tarot magick and awareness to everyday living. Rather than for 'special occaisons' or a reading on a particular request or question, it provides many other ways to connect with the tarot. This book is designed to be used with some prior knowledge of the tarot, or in conjuction with a 'tarot 101' book for new readers.
First, the 'Bad'- the author is a follower of Starhawk and the Reclaiming Community, so almost all of this is directed to women and goddess traditions, with little or no positive mention of men. While this in itself is not 'bad', but this orientation does limit the appeal and usefulness of much of the material to those of who do not subscribe to goddess only traditions. It also drawa many of its examples using the 'Mother Peace tarot', so a familiarity with that deck is advisible.
Now, the 'Good'- the book really challenges the reader to look at the cards in new, creative ways. While cooking based on the tarot may not be for everyone, there are some great meditative and creative art projects that are worth exploring.
The'Downright Useful' are the correspondences. While most any tarot 101 books gives some common correspondences for colors, elements, planets, etc, this book gives us fabrics, foods/spices, minerals-things a little off the beaten path. While tarot color dressing may sound a little fluffy, using those correspondences for altar covers, incense or spice use, goes beyond the usual help offered by a tarot 101 book.
So, if you can get past the Starhawk slant (if that is not your path) it does over some very creative ways to utlize the tarot in a powerful way.
