4.0 out of 5 stars
Tarot of the Northern shadows,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tarot of Northern Shadows (Cards)
The artwork on this tarot deck is great, and the choices of images I recognize seem appropriate. The only drawback preventing me from giving 5 stars is the uselessness of the accompanying "little white book" pamphlet, which simply regurgitates standard meanings for the cards with no relation to this particular deck whatsoever. If it just gave the name of the individual (or event) pictured, that would make this deck much more useful (if you didn't know the god or story in question, you could look it up).
One reviewer (I read several reviews before the purchase) said, "I quite like the Star card. A raven-tressed woman draped in white holds three golden apples. No doubt she's supposed to represent Aphrodite..." Well, no, it's NOT Aphrodite - this isn't a deck of Greek myth; it's got to be the Norse Idunna, whose golden apples kept the Norse gods young. Now if the pamphlet had just said "The Star - Idunna", she'd would not have made the mistake. Some of the cards are obvious - you can't miss Thor in his chariot, but I can't pin down all of them by any means, and I've read a lot of Northern myth. Grey Mere |
