WONDERFUL!!!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tarot of the Cat People: A Traveler's Report (with Tarot Deck) (Paperback)
Only 1,000 words??? Oh my! Let me begin by saying that I know absolutely nothing about tarot. I am 34 years old, and I've had a reading done once in my lifetime. I am, however, presently exploring my less rational/logical side...if that makes any sense...in a number of different ways. I am also a great lover of cats. Even the most recent stray to come to my house is a "lion dog" (Chow-Chow) and I was born, and exhibit all the traits of, a Leo. Lion (the chow) now joins my three-cat-(also former strays)-household as a member of this heavily feline-influenced family. Back to tarot -- this deck is absolutely beautiful for cat lovers! It seems to me, as uneducated as I am about tarot in general, that the facial features of the cats when compared to the humans on each card, is important in some way. I'll leave that observation for other explorers to figure out. I strongly recommend, for those equally as ignorant as I am, that they order the cards WITH the book. I should think that, no matter what deck a reader choses, the concise information about each of the cards as provided in this book would be helpful. Also, there is a very helpful 10-card layout grid, not mentioned in the review, which has assisted me tremendously. I got my set today (along with 2 others which I haven't opened yet), and immediately gave myself 2 readings on different topics. I had one cat on the table and the newly-adopted chow-chow at my feet. I was VERY impressed at the accuracy of the cards to my present life situation. I should probably add here that, prior to my experience with these cards 30 minutes ago, I was at best a skeptic and at worst a total disbeliever. I ordered the deck because I liked the artwork as I had seen it displayed at different web sites, and I originally intended to frame it to display on a wall b/c of my affection for cats.(BTW, for those beginners like me, there are several useful sites on the web to compare "the look" of decks before you buy. Just do a search on "tarot decks" or "tarot reviews".)In short, since I apparently haven't run out of my 1,000 words yet, I'm sure this deck will become my all-time favorite. I have NO REGRETS in purchasing it, and I believe it will be an excellent source for beginners. I'm not going to frame it after all. :)

Mystique of Cats and Tarot Meets SF/Fantasy Sensibility,
By nsf@cybergal.com (Bow, WA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tarot of the Cat People: A Traveler's Report (with Tarot Deck) (Paperback)
This is the 5th of my 7 (so far) decks. The artwork for this deck was originally done as large format paintings, and it shows in the detail. The book, available individually or in the boxed set, gives the standard US Games card interpretations, as well as a creative and detailed 'travellers report'. Written from the perspective of a deep space exploration team, the book makes the deck especially enjoyable for science fiction fans. The illustrations have a fantasy feel, using lush costumes, jewelry, and settings. Of course, the deck is a _must have_ for cat lovers--there are cats on EVERY card, even in the position usually taken by the dog on the Fool card. The artwork and interpretation of the cards definitely sets the right tone for a reading, and the deck stands alone purely on its artistic value. If you get the deck, I would strongly suggest getting the box set, or buying the book separately, as the booklet in the deck is the standard US Games booklet and gives only basic interpretations. This deck is my 3rd favorite. The Aquarian deck is my favorite.

This is my favorite Tarot deck!!,

I collect Tarot decks and also give face-to-face readings. I must say that of all of the different decks I own, The Tarot of the Cat People is by far my favorite! Something in those mysterious beings and their beautiful feline companions simply sparks my intuitive side. I've found that I tune to this deck very well and give my most accurate readings when using it. If you like cats both big and small, or like that Central American/Aztec/Mayan flavor, you'll love this deck as much as I do!

One of the best, cat lover or no...,

This review is from: Tarot of the Cat People: A Traveler's Report (with Tarot Deck) (Paperback)
I have loved and done my best to learn tarot from a very young and impressionable age...11. I have learned a thing or two for myself about the amazing gift such 'books' really are. I had for a while, when means became available to me, amassed quite a growing collection. So much beauty , you see. Through all of this seek and seek more, I've found two decks that really work for me. The most profound that I've found have been the Thoth deck By Crowley. Never fails, a bit scary actually. And the other being this Cat People deck.
The images and the descriptives are spot on. The art in this one in incredible, to me, the meanings always resound. Whether or not you love the feline, you might want to give it a look or two. Or many more. Thoth and Cat People... my two faves. As always, find out for yourself. I highly advise.

Absolutely not for beginners,
This review is from: Tarot of the Cat People: A Traveler's Report (with Tarot Deck) (Paperback)
I bought this deck many years ago- and though I've bought many since, it remains a trusted friend and companion. Though I can't speak for this precise printing of the set (mine were printed in 1984- this is a reissue so I can't speak for the color quality or stock quality)- I can talk of its general performance.
Though this deck was my first venture into Tarot, I strongly advise if you are new: You may wish another deck. This is highly a fantasy deck- relying on you having already understood some of the most basic symbolism inherent to the cards. The elemental symbolism of the suites is heavily downplayed though still present- one must look close to catch the meanings beyond those simply laid out in a laundry list in the book. However, in a rare turn around, the artist took into account the fact some suites represent certain aspects of a person's physical features as well and honored them in the designs of the humans in this deck. If you are someone who generally has a hard time picking a card to represent the questioner- that aspect at least is made easy. There is also the major arcana to take into account- some of which are changed from the more typical 22 cards seen in a Marseilles style deck. The Pope has become the High Priest- while Judgment has become Rejuvenation. Beyond that odd seeming swap around, the Major Arcana are very easy to understand and interpret by their art alone- the minor arcana however are much more difficult. In these you see this is by in large a story deck, bordering on novelty. The cards retain their meaning and symbolism, but it's presented in odd ways that are sure to throw a new reader. I know it certainly took me a very long time to get the hang of it, having this be my first deck...though now it remains one of my most beloved decks.

Great deck - even for beginners,

Tarot of the Cat People is the first deck I have worked with, and I was able to pick up the basic meanings of the cards just by paying attention to the detail, such as facial expressions, which are not always paid attention to on other decks. The art is absolutely stunning, and the story behind the deck is a truly fantastic one. I would recomend Tarot of the Cat People to anyone, but especially to cat lovers. ^..^

Great but..,

I'll say right away that this deck is one of my favorites. The art is done very well and I use the deck a lot. At the same time, I really don't think it's one of the better choices for beginners. I mean, I'm sure a beginner could start off with it. I started off with Arthurian and people say that's a complicated deck. The reason why i think it's a bad idea as a beginner's deck is that the symbolism gets confusing.
The Major Arcana is ruled by the Sky People, the Swords are ruled by the Fire People, Wands are ruled by the Sand People, Cups by Salt People and Pentacles by the Rock People. Certainly you would think that Wands would be ruled by the Fire People and what are these other elements about? It just throws me off. The easiest way for me to use this deck is to ignore the little white book completely and only think about it's true meaning. We're encouraged to learn through personal interpretation anyway, but most people skim through the book and the book is enough to confuse anyone. All in all, I like it. Just ditch that LWB. LOL.

Uncanny!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tarot of the Cat People: A Traveler's Report (with Tarot Deck) (Paperback)
I was at [another website] for a quick reading of some relationship problems. I've always been fascinated with the beauty that is cats and with the beauty of these cards, so I picked the Cat People deck. I had tried a couple others and they were way off. Well, I tried the Cat People deck (three times!) And all three times it was uncannily correct! It was frightening almost the accuracy with which my life problems were nailed on this one. I haven't bought it yet, but let me tell you now, however it happened, these cards alone carry magick... I've been told that you need to put your own magick into the cards for an accurate reading, well I didn't do a dang thing to this deck and it knows everything about me! I strongly suggest purchasing it. For it's beauty if nothing else.

Best Deck Ever!,
By Admiralissimo Voodoo (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tarot of the Cat People: A Traveler's Report (with Tarot Deck) (Paperback)
I purchased this deck back in 1997. It's the best deck I've ever used. There is a cat on ever single card, and the cats seem to give more meaning to rest of the imagery. The backs of the cards have a really nice hypnotic design that almost reminds me of the artwork of Shag (google him if you don't know who he is).
I've used this deck for countless readings, and the results are always detailed and insightful. The booklet that comes with the cards is interesting, but I never use tarot card booklets. For me, it's better to study the imagery on the cards and deduct my own meanings. Booklet or no booklet, these cards are great.
