I've been reading Tarot for a long, long time, and this is the book I always come back to. This was the one that helped everything "click" into place for me, it is a wonderful book for beginners, and I still refer back to it periodically to refresh myself on the meanings of the individual symbols on eash card, or to consider alternative interpretations. Of the three Eden Gray tarot books, this is my favorite, but all three have merit and are worth buying.

If you are using the Rider-Waite deck, this is a good beginning book to have. When I first reviewed this book, I'd only been studying the tarot for a few months, but Eden Gray's book gave me a remarkable amount of insight in a very short time. When I went to a local metaphysical bookstore to purchase my first tarot deck (Rider-Waite, btw), I asked the owner of the store which tarot book she recommended. She bypassed all the elaborate-looking and more expensive books she had for sale, and calmly handed Eden Gray's book to me. (I double checked after she walked away -- she had picked out the least expensive book). I think the bookstore owner's endorsement said it all. I have since read several other books, but for my readings I kept coming back to the interpretations I learned in this book. The store owner said that Gray's book would get me started, then after that, I should use my own intuition. Reading bigger and better books is great exercise for the left brain, but is that really why you are interested in the tarot?

This book coupled with a good pack of Tarot cards
can turn anyone into a Tarot reader in minutes. This book
has information on the past of tarot, different spreads to
use with them, the meanings of every card, and a full page
illustration for each of them. I use this book with
Albano-Waite cards, and the pictures match perfectly.
TAROT REVEALED is a must-have for any person interested in
reading the Tarot.

I'm a big fan of Eden Gray because I feel she includes some of the esoteric information of the Golden Dawn and Builders of the Adytum without getting too confusing or complex for the beginner. I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 because it's basically the same as her first book, The Complete Guide to the Tarot, except she adds (in addition to the Celtic Cross and Kabbalistic readings described in her first book) a chapter on doing a past life reading, and a chapter on Tarot for the New Age in which she offers further insights on some of the cards. The brevity of her card descriptions, while by no means complete, makes it easier for the novice reader to memorize at least the core meaning of each card and get started doing readings.

As with her other two Tarot books, this one features black and white illustrations of the Waite-Rider deck. I wish someone would do a compilation of all three of her books (the third being Mastering the Tarot) with color illustrations. Gray's books hail from the early days of the Tarot renaissance in the 60s and 70s, yet they remain classics.

This book inspired me to buy a Rider-Waite deck! I started learning tarot with non-traditional decks like Motherpeace and the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot, and I picked this book up to see what the old standby Rider-Waite was all about. Gray's simple, clear explanations shed new light on my readings with other decks, and the Rider-Waite illustrations convinced me that this deck merits its status as the "standard" for tarot.
Gray explains the Minor Arcana in very useful detail, and the concise discussion of reversals was especially helpful to me. The information about how to do readings for other people is also quite practical. The section on the Majors seems a bit skeletal to me, but there's definitely enough to get you started.
This is an all-over good read as well applicable to any tarot deck in a very general way.

This book has a very short description of each card's divinitory meaning and an even shorter description of the card reversed. This brevity is appealing to a person who wants to begin reading cards immediately, however it has the drawback of giving limited interpretations which can lead to inaccuracy in some circumstances. It also makes memorizing the meanings very difficult, since it does not tie the meaning in with the pictoral representation of the card. In its favor, at least it does mention the reversed cards, which not all references do. It also has a short glossery of the symbolism used in cards. All in all, though, for any beginner who really wants to learn the tarot, I'd say Joan Bunning's book is 10 times better than this.
