Book Description

November 1, 1992
llustrated with the Tarot of the Spirit deck painted by Joyce Eakins. Centered on the Qabbalistic Tree of Life, this symbolism clearly explores the Minor Arcana as a representation of the four components of life: spirit, emotion, intellect, andbody; while it reveals the Major Arcana to be the keys to our emotional response patterns to the symbolic universe in which we live. Includes seven monthly meditations, individual readings, and layouts.

More About the Author

Pamela Eakins came into this life with curiosity and words. She has never stopped writing since she submitted her first book to Random House at the age of ten (which was ever-so-kindly rejected). Her first memorable accolades came with a gold medal she won in the Colorado Bicentennial Competition for her essay on the blue spruce. As she studied for her doctorate at the University of Colorado at Boulder, she continued to write everyday. Writing became her morning practice. Her dissertation, Mothers in Transition, was published soon after she moved to California to birth her babies, to become the director of a childbirth center, and to conduct research at Stanford University and UCLA. On a high cliff over the ocean, her written expression continued to grow as did her spiritual sense of inter-being. She published The American Way of Birth and began work on Tarot of the Spirit and Priestess. Whether scholarly or mystical, whether accepted or rejected, writing, in and of itself, has never been at question for Pamela Eakins. Nor has teaching. Pamela conducts classes online and onsite: tarot, qabalah, women's circles, and writing. 5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for any tarot reader!, July 14, 1998

Of all the tarot decks I have used, this is by far the best. So much so, that it has become a part of my daily life. The art work is beautiful and extremely complex in its symbolism. The companion book continues to shock me in its validity to my own life. Dr. Eakins could not have done a better job! An excellent purchase for both beginning and experienced tarot readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep, intelligent, and beautiful, February 17, 2005

This book and deck are the most profound I have found. I had given up on tarot because the most commonly used decks and books are so materially oriented, mostly interested in money, health, and romance. This deck and book set, however, is both intelligent and spiritually wise. I was a scientist before I retired to explore art and spirituality, and it is a rare book that does not seem naive in one or more of these dimension. Thank you, Pamela and Joyce.
I also posted this review in response to the deck that accompanies the book. I would recommend getting both, although I started with the book and then got the deck.

5.0 out of 5 stars an elementally based deck- not a rider clone, July 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Tarot of the Spirit (Paperback)
this deck has detailed, if somewhat surreal imagery. instead of wands or coins this deck uses fire, to represent spirit, earth, etc. it isn't king, queen, etc. but mother, father, sister, brother. the imagery has sometimes hidden elements that can surprise you long after you think you know the deck. i recomend this deck for more advanced readers, or those more attuned to the elements.
