Editorial Reviews

Disney's legendary adventure is better than ever as TARZAN bursts onto Blu-ray for the first time ever with spectacular picture and amazing sound. Filled with thrills, laughs, and Academy Award(R)-winning music (Best Music, Original Song, "You'll Be In My Heart," 1999), this family favorite will make you go wild. Disney's magnificent adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' story begins deep within the jungle when baby Tarzan is adopted by a family of gorillas. But his "Two Worlds" collide with the arrival of humans, forcing Tarzan to choose between a "civilized" life with the beautiful Jane and the life he shares with his fun-loving friends and his gorilla family. Enjoy this wild and wonderful adventure in a whole new way on Disney Blu-ray!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tarzan is Much More Than the Cover Describes June 7, 2014
Format:Blu-ray
One of the benefits of belonging to the Disney Movie Club, is the ability to get movies before their intended release dates. I just got Tarzan blu ray in the mail this morning, and I wasn't expecting more than the movie and the few paltry extras listed on the packaging. Well imagine my surprise when I popped the disc in and found that it apparently includes all of the material from the long out of print 2 DVD set from years ago!! Someone can check me on this, as I no longer own that set, but this seems to be everything I remember. With this blu ray release you get an improved picture with beautiful colors and clear animation lines, a robust DTS 5.1 soundtrack, and all of these extras.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie - But Flawed Audio! February 4, 2000
Format:DVD
The movie is great, I like it at home as much as I did in the theater, BUT...There appears to be a glitch with the sound. The front left and rear right audio channel is SWITCHED. Disney is aware of this problem (on 1.5 million disks) and isn't doing ANYTHING about it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD Features, Annoying Forced Previews February 1, 2000
Format:DVD
The Tarzan DVD has a nice Storybook reading feature and some other bonuses, but also has an extremely RUDE feature: When you first start the DVD, Disney shows you 3 minutes of previews before launching the main menu. No fastforwarding or skipping allowed! What a dumb way to cheapen an otherwise great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to make a gem without violence! November 30, 1999
Format:DVD
Technically, this movie is perfect. Great songs, beautifully designed scenarios, endearable funny characters and a strong feeling of nostalgia for movies that aim to a higher message. Regretfully, whoever is a parent these days is having a lot of trouble to explain the violence shown in cartoons to their sons. Moreover, it's hard to endorse any t.v. cartoons other than Pinky and the Brain or history related ones. Tarzan demonstrates that there is such thing such as a Family Film and that you can create visually stunning gems as this movie and, still, send a message other than gross scenes or blood and guts spilled all over. Thank you, Disney.

5.0 out of 5 stars From Idianapolis.. Great Movie November 20, 1999
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
I have to say that the person from Chicago is way to analytical! This is a childrens movie without a doubt.. Take it from a mother that is very protective of the tv programs that her children watch.. This was very animated and there was no gross violence that all the new cartoons these days have in it.. It was a love story, a frienship story, a happy and a sad story. As an adult, I loved it and highly reccomend it for you and your children. It is something that you can sit down as a family and enjoy together.. Try not to analyze this movie, just enjoy it, it's great!

1.0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE!!! October 10, 2005
Format:DVD
After publicizing this release as a 2 disc set, disney finally changed its mind and released it as a barebones single disc. Those who were waiting to get all those great behind the scenes stuff available previously on "tarzan 2 disc collector's edition" will be thoroughly disappointed with this release.

However, those who missed out on previous 2 disc collector's edition and want to own tarzan on a two disc set, still have the option of buying it from amazon.co.uk, where it has been released as a 2-disc special edition with all those behind the scenes stuff from previous collector's edition. Just make sure you have a multi-region dvd player which plays discs from all regions.

Do not buy this unless you just want to own the film. Better still search for the old collector's edition. It will be worth all the money spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best DVD Disney has to offer February 1, 2000
Format:DVD
I just finished watching the Tarzan DVD with my fammily and the quality of the animation and story is Excellent. The stunning animation and soudtrack is reason enough to purchase this DVD, but it comes with so many more extras including; a on screen trivia game, a on screen story book, a phil collins music video, behind the scences stuff, cool trailers and a DVD ROM game ( I dont have a computer DVD ROM Drive..yet) Not to mention language selections in English, Spanish and French.
A Must buy for any Family or Disney Lover.

1.0 out of 5 stars excellent movie, but... October 19, 2005
Format:DVD
This film is fantastic and it's nice to see it being put back out on dvd, but the main issue here is Disney's marketing. After promising a 2 disc release (that mirrored the Collector's Edition), the US was shafted and only recieved a one disc with minimal extras. This wouldn't be a huge issue, but most everywhere else in the world DID get the 2 disc release and it bothers me that Disney decieded to do this. The false advertisement of this edition of the dvd is unexcusable and I'm very upset about this. In the back of my mind I'm wondering if they're prepping a 2-disc re-release as well but centered for more around Christmas...

bottom line, if you don't care about the special features I'd get this DVD. But, for the disney collector, try and find a copy of the Collectors Edition somewhere.
