Honestly, I don't know why so many people hate this show! I think the music is fantastic! I have not yet seen it, but I'm hoping soon I'll go to NYC or hopefully there will be a tour production. 3.0 out of 5 stars Some high points, many low ones...
First of all, I have to say that I love the movie soundtrack. Ironically, the movie songs here are by far the best ones. And, surprisingly enough, Tarzan's singing (Josh Strickland) is the strongest. Kerchak's (sp?) voice is plain annoying and Jane sounds like a past-her-prime Julie Andrews. Frankly, I'm disappointed with the voices of the cast.

Honestly, I don't know why so many people hate this show! I think the music is fantastic! I have not yet seen it, but I'm hoping soon I'll go to NYC or hopefully there will be a tour production. The music is just so addicting. Every song is great and full with energy and emotion and passion. Josh Strickland is by far the best MALE singer I have ever heard in a Broadway show. Jenn Gambatese is EXCELLENT! She is such a beautiful singer and she has her many higlights in her high notes ("Strangers Like Me"). Merle Dandrige is a WONDERFUL Kala. She has such a beautiful voice. I can totally tell why she was "Joanne" in RENT for a long period. Chestor Gregory III is a WONDERFUL Terk, also. And the man that plays Kerchak is fantastic, along with Porter. Clayton, even though he is a main character, does not have any songs.

Highlight songs:
"Two Worlds"
"You'll Be In My Heart"
"Son Of Man"
"Sure As Sun Turns To Moon"
"Waiting For This Moment"
"Different"
"Trashin' The Camp"
"Like No Man I've Ever Seen"
"Strangers Like Me"
"For The First Time"
"Sure As Sun Turns To Moon (Reprise)"

All in all, this is a wonderful show. And I bet the show is just as fantastic!

TARZAN ROCKS!

I went to go see the show in NYC and i thought it was amazing however i thought that after the first couple of scenes that were a bit slow i thought that the remainer of the show was wonderful. Josh Strickland has a great as Tarzan and other supporting characters had pretty good voices as well. Overall, after listening to the soundtrack i feel that i would enjoy the show so much more because the show is very fun and entertaining and although some people feel that the singing is bad or weak i thought that musically the show was awesome. Chester Gregory II stole the show with his songs and was also very entertaining. Don't let anyone tell you that this show isn't worth seeing because it is very good and is a great show for the whole. I want to see the show again. It is worth the support of viewer. Go see it and make a choice for yourself. As an actor i can enjoy it, others should be able to as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars I just don't understand.., July 7, 2006
This review is from: Tarzan - The Broadway Musical (Original Broadway Cast) (Audio CD)
I just don't understand why this show got so many bad reviews... I went in NY to see it with my 12 years old daughter, and we loved it! And we are not alone, for sure. The theater was full and everybody there had obviously a great time.Every songs got their strong applause! Standing ovation with a long and strong applause at the end!
It was a amazing beautiful and touching show. The songs are just perfect and so brilliantly written by Phil Collins.

We bought the cd as well and we just love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disney Rocks OUT!!!, July 1, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tarzan - The Broadway Musical (Original Broadway Cast) (Audio CD)
Tarzan is a swinging heep of fun! You will want to jump up and down for joy. Strickland as Tarzan is amazing. He makes the opening so great. And Kala is an absolute knock out!!
And Kerchak is so full of rage in his song but calms it down a bit. Terk brings a soulful touch to the track. But the two young Tarzans are weak!!! Jenn Gambetese who plays Jane Porter is a power house! and makes the character worth while!! Phil Collins is amazing for writing this score!! HE ROCKS!!!!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars This Tarzan Doesn't Swing!, November 2, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tarzan - The Broadway Musical (Original Broadway Cast) (Audio CD)
The Phil Collins penned , Disney Produced "Tarzan" is an unqualified bomb. If you are a hard core Phil Collins fan, left over from the 70's and 80's you may enjoy this pasteurized Collins sound, now that you're a bit older. It sounds like it should be played in elevators!!! This is not Broadway! Collins rehashes an old melody of his and reshapes it innumerable times, like a one trick pony. It's doubtful that Mr Collins will be writing a lot more Disney Musicals, he's not exactly Elton John, although no one has told him yet. The one bright African tribal moment in the score washes away so fast you forget you almost got excited at the sound of the tribal drumming! And that is really it. Most recordings grow on you as you listen to them more and more. This show bears few listenings before it's banal sound imnforms you that this is one for the trade in pile, or just chuck it out the window! At least it might be useful as a projectile, because it certainly is of no use to the Broadway Repotoire!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all, June 28, 2006
This review is from: Tarzan - The Broadway Musical (Original Broadway Cast) (Audio CD)
I wish I could give half-star ratings, because this would get 3 and a half stars, so I erred on the side of generosity. This is not the greatest musical of all time, but it is pretty good. The one criticism I have is of the voices. Kala is wonderful, and Terk is good, but everyone else is bland and flat. There were times when I thought Tarzan's voice sounded like a low woman's voice. Jane sounds like she's trying too hard to affect the english accent. Kerchak is boring. Porter only has one song, so I don't think it's fair to evaluate his performance. As for the songs themselves, I did find myself humming them after I turned off the CD.

Among the better new songs (not ones from the movie) are "Who Better Than Me" and "Sure as Sun Turns to Moon." The best new song has to be "For the First Time," the ballad where Tarzan and Jane sing of their love. It's truly beautiful.

All in all, it was worth buying and listening to. It's just not on my top 10.

A Kid's Review

When I heard that they were doing a show for TARZAN I immediatly started to listen to clips online for the show's songs. Then one day my mother and I had to go to Target to get her a CD for her collage classes, she's going back, and I found this CD!
I have to say I loved it from the start. I don't see why there are so many bad reviews!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this music, January 29, 2007
This review is from: Tarzan - The Broadway Musical (Original Broadway Cast) (Audio CD)
I was very excited to hear that "Tarzan," one of my favorite Disney movies was being made into a musical. Being a theatre major in school, I had to buy the soundtrack as soon as I found out. The music was beautifully written, the singers all sound wonderful, and frankly, I can't wait to see the show!! I have read some reviews before I bought it and one thing that really bothered me was some close-minded person who complained that the lyrics didn't rhyme. Well, no, not all of it does, but that's what makes this music so beautiful. People always automatically think that lyrics have to rhyme, but I find the best songs to be where the lyrics don't necessarily rhyme and the music is beautiful; songs like the ones in this show. I highly recommend this soundtrack to everyone.
