FINALLY! Disney Gets things right with their Sequels!,
By Matt Charles "Matt Charles" (Linden, New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tarzan II (DVD)
I got a chance to preview this movie before it's release on June 15th and just to let everyone know it will please the Tarzan fans! it really lived up to the first one and it was really cute! The animation not as good as the first one but you can tell Disney put in a lot of thought to this movie and took their time, not rushing it for money like they always do with their sequels. The two new songs by Phil Collins really rock, It leaves you wanting more fromt the man who did the first Tarzan music and Brother Bear! Phil is great and so is this movie! I cannot wait to own this movie on DVD! :) FIVE STARS!

Babysitting Bliss. And it's really cute,
By Kathleen Myer "Kathy" (Arizona) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tarzan II (DVD)
As a babysitter, I have to say, this movie does the trick. I was watching two of the most energetic, smart, bratty (yet somehow still adorable) little kids in the world. They were beginning to drive me crazy, and I had to cook them food. Their mom had left Tarzan Two for them, and I put it in and BAMMMMM silence in the house. Except for laughing. Over dinner, I asked them what they thought of the movie, and they said, in a nutshell, they liked it because it was funny, and they thought Tarzan, Terk, and Tantor were reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally funny. hahaha. After dinner they wanted to watch it again. This time I sat down with them, and on top of being cute, it's a really good film for children. It stars characters that are young, so the target audience can relate, and they're doing heroic and brave things, encouraging kids to get up and move! Another thing I liked, is they also are very respectful to adults!!! Too many movies today glorify kids who are rude to their teachers or parents, and portray adults as idiots and villains.
The casting was very well done, too! Glenn Close stayed on board, YAY cus I think she has the perfect mama voice! And props to little Terk (Brenda Grate) for immitating Rosie O'Donnell so well. Not an easy thing to do! and Tantor is adorable. It's also nice and short, so littler kids can get through it without a pee break, or fussing. IN CONCLUSION! I enjoyed this film, so did the little darlings I was watching, and it's a good movie.

I think that this was a well done sequel. The animation is really close to the first and the story line is good. I love little tantor. So cute. Really this is one of Disney's better sequel. Very glad that I bought this.

Tarzan II.....,

After watching "Tarzan and Jane" recently, I wasn't expecting too much out of this sequel to Tarzan. But, lo and behold, Disney did an outstanding job with this one. Tarzan II focuses on a chapter of Tarzan's life as a child, where he realizes he is not an ape and sets out to discover exactly what he is. Despite the things I've heard people say about the movie, I thought it was a great movie. It was humorous, downright hilarious in some parts and, overall, is a real good, feel good movie. Phil Collins is back on board with the sequel providing music for the movie, Glenn Close and Lance Henrikson do as well as the voices of Tarzan's ape parents. I think the thing I liked most about it was the special feature featurette, The Legacy of Tarzan- A Behind-the-scenes glimpse of how Phil Collins created new music for the film and Tarzan's Matter-of-Facts - Viewing mode that features facts and explains novelist Edgar Rice Burroughs' Unique Ape Language. If you have Tarzan, this is one sequel you need in your collection.
In my opinion, sequels aren't bad if they're done right. I'll admit, Disney has been somewhat formulaic in its' approach to sequels, as of late. Yet, this is one that they did a good job with. If they can keep up the good work with other sequels, as they did with this, they just might restore my faith in them.

It wasn't that bad people,

I was surprised. The animation was as beautiful as the first. ANd the story wasn't half bad. I'm 19 and I still giggled like a 3 year old at some parts. It was a good sequel. It had Sabor in it....come on....that deserves your time alone! It's worth it. At least rent it. It's not a waste. I was hooked to the tv the whole time. ANd there aren't any cheesy songs. The new Phil Collins songs are catchy and pretty darn good! I'm glad I purchased this one, if you're an avid disney animation fan, this is a must!

This is a Excellent Movie with terrific music. Disney got Phil Collins to do the music for this one too. Tarzan and all his friends are little in this one and they are just adorable. The kids will love it. And I don't mind having it on a million time.... As my little ones love to watch it again and again...

Arguably Disney's Best Video Sequel,
By Lee Neville "Lee" (London, ENGLAND) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tarzan II (DVD)
Tarzan II tells the story of young Tarzan. Remember that song "Son of Man" from the first film and how Tarzan grew up in it. Well this is what else takes place during that time.
And during that time, there is an accident in which Kala is hurt and Tarzan is thought off as having died. Lucky for him he hasn't and he plans on returning to them. That is until he overhears family members saying that Kala would probably be better without him- so Tarzan runs away... I have to be honest, I pretty much hate the Disney straight to video/DVD sequels. The animation is terrible, the story is almost as bad and the songs are uninspired. Then in 2004, Disney released The Lion King 1/2, and it was a step in the right direction. Tarzan II continues that step. The animation is almost as good as the original and the few songs here are excellent. There is a newer, much shorter, version of "Son of Man", and the savior of this movie is the song "Who Am I?". The story became a little weak after the first 20 minutes but it was quite acceptable. The DVD has Disney fastplay, games, a featurette and the music video for "Who Am I" performed by the amazing young singer Tiffany Evans. The music video is the true highlight of the DVD and I look forward to hearing more from Tiffany Evans in the future- remember her name! Tarzan II- Arguably Disney's Best Video Sequel.

pretty good prequel,
By Loyda Burk (Clinton, MA USA) - See all my reviews

After reading other reviews of this movie, I decided to rent the DVD. It is a very cute movie! Usually sequels are kinda lame and never are as good as the original movie, but this prequel was good- I enjoyed it right along with my kids- ages 10, 6, almost 4 and 2. I especially liked that it had kid charcters that respected and obeyed their parents - "yes m'am" which is how my children are instructed to respond to any adult. I would consider buying this movie and I don't usually buy sequels. Happy viewing!!

Why the midquels, disney??? Why???,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tarzan II (DVD)
First off, the animation was very nice. But pretty is as pretty does, right? The story is pretty weak and fairly uninteresting, like most disney DTVs today. It's about Tarzan's boyhood. Like I said, it's not too bad, but it's not very original either.
This is one of disney's first so called "midquels" that later spawned nightmares Bambi 2 and Fox and the Hound 2. I know that some don't feel that way (especially about Bambi 2 apparently), but, if you ever ask those that do like them, the answer is usually that they would have preferred a real sequel. What's with that, eh? Anyway, I'd rent this, there is too much of a chance that you might not like it.

Another pointless Disney midquel,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tarzan II (DVD)
All of Disneys direct to video follow ups are really starting to get tiresome. They are fast cheap ways to profit off the original and have no reason to excist. Tarzan 2 is no exception. The original Tarzan is a Disney classic. A great story of action, love, and trying to find your place in the world. Afterwords came the Legend of Tarzan series. Which featured inferior animation but decent stories. Tarzan 2 does surprise me by being the first direct to video sequel to have animation on par with the original. Breaking a long sucky tradition of sequels with inferior animation. Unfortunitly the story is below the quality of even most of the television episodes. It takes place sometime in the middle of the original sometime during the "Son of Man" song. It involves Tarzan feeling he is a danger to his family and runing away to find out what he is. The story has no strong villian, no real threats, and a cheesy as hell conflict resolution. All the elements of a kids movie that everyone over puberty will have a problem with. A real shame considering the orginal could be enjoyed equally by kids and adults. It has its cute momments and is better then many of Disneys very poor direct to video but thats not saying much going against garbage like The Lion King 1 1/2. The DVD has superb picture and sound. Why Disney denies DTS on the originls but gives it to its inferior sequels I don't know. An Ok little movie for the kids but Tarzan 2 leaves alot to be desired from adult fans of the original.
