no doubt the best ever,
By mark (Mesa, AZ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tarzan (Audio CD)
I have read most of the reviews on this, and I can't believe people are saying this is the best since lion king. THIS IS THE BEST EVER! The story of Tarzan is old and done several times, but Phil's unmatched talent as a musician is the perfect thing this story needed. Other reviews complained that the characters did not sing the songs. What about trashing the camp, and you'll be in my heart? Those were both sung all or partially by the characters. Besides no other movies we watch have the characters singing the songs, except musicals, and this is not a musical. Phil's songs phit the story perfectly, and enhance the emotions we feel while watching this beutiful story of love and family. some reviews also say if you're a Phil Collins fan you should get it. well,if you're a Phil phan you already have it. Everyone else should get it. I saw the movie again this week and cried through out the songs sung by Phil, cause he did such a wonderful job of telling the story. My hat's off to the people of Disney for choosing the perfect man for the job. Way to go Phil! This is by far the best Disney movie ever, and there is not even a close second in the soundtrack catagory. No cheezy songs like in past Disney soundtracks. Even the orchestrations are beautiful and I enjoy listening to them. This is a must have!

Phil hits the mark - perfectly!,

When I had seen "Tarzan" I had to get the soundtrack - I just couldn't get these songs out of my head.
The album's four 'serious' songs of Phil Collins, "Two Worlds", "Son of Man", "Strangers Like Me" and "You'll Be In My Heart" are all super. "You'll Be..." is a fantastic love-song that gives the best of Phil's very emotional voice. The three other songs are all more up-tempo, and they go right in because of their merry tunes and positive lyrics - I can't help wanting to dance and laugh when I hear them. My favorite is "Strangers Like Me" (unfortunately only included one time), but they are all great, and they do perfectly capture the mood from the film. The more 'childish' "Trashing the Camp" is nice, to, and it's difficult not to sing with (skee-bi-de-ba-dob...). The scores are good, but I'm more for Phil's tunes. Anyway this is a perfect soundtrack.

Phil & The Ape Man,
By
This review is from: Tarzan (Audio CD)
1999's "Tarzan" movie soundrack isn't really a "proper" Phil Collins album, per se, but Phil does contribute some wonderful tunes to the soundtrack, as well as some killer tribal rhythms & beats that perfectly fit this animated Disney hit about the legendary ape man. Of course there's the gorgeous "You'll Be In My Heart," for which Phil won his well-deserved Oscar for Best Song, but also the equally-powerful "Two Worlds," the fun "Trashin' The Camp," and the skillful pop of "Son Of Man" and "Strangers Like Me." There's also incredible orchestral music that makes up the album's second-half, written by Mark Mancina, which Phil contributes drums to.Okay, so I could've done without NSync's guest duet with Phil on the second version of "Trashin' The Camp," but otherwise, this is a marvelous soundtrack album, with some classic Phil Collins music. The "Tarzan" movie soundtrack is a very swingin' disc in my book.

The children in my class almost broke the floor tile!,

I bought this CD for my own personal use because after the seeing the film, the music stuck in my head for days! Each song has a special meaning and I congratulate Phil Collins for his excellent lyrical and musical genius on this album. Another reason that I purchased this CD was for my classroom.(I teach Head Start- children aged 4 and 5) I knew that after watching the movie together, they would probably enjoy the CD by itself as well, but I was happily astounded by their enthusiam for all of the music. Some of the children that were typically more quiet seemed to leap with happiness when they heard the beat of some of these songs! Also, we played "You'll Be in My Heart" at the end of the year celebration especially for the parents and I could tell they appreciated it. I encourage teachers and parents alike to purchase this CD simply to see your children enjoy themselves. Thank you for this musical miracle!

Captures Just The Right Tribal Atmosphere!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tarzan (Audio CD)
You know it's hard to believe that Phil Collins, as more of a pop musician, could handle the percussions so professionally in this soundtrack! I mean it's odd, but I simply LOVE the way he deals with drums and other tribal woodwind instruments to deliver the perfect mix of ambience and modern-day jungle tunes! I wouldn't rate it so much as somewhat a new-age album - after all, it does somehow bring together pop catchiness and forest moods. But even so, even if you've never watched the movie, listen to the music on this CD. In fact, the jumpy tunes and captivating lyrics already tell a story of their own! So go swing along with Tarzan on this powerful musical adventure! AW-YEE-AW-YEE-AW!

The Music Behind The Man,
This review is from: Tarzan (Audio CD)
When looking at a huge music star such as Phil Collins, people automatically assume the best out of him. He has so many albums, fans and awards so thus, the general public assume that someone as high quality as him would give it his all. Putting aside the film, and when you really look at the music, you see he did.
From the opening song "Two Worlds", you can feel the confliction and pain he tries to presents in the words. From having the young ape killed to having Tarzan's parents killed by the jaguar, you can hear him trying to present the pain. When he gets to the lyrics "No words describe a mothers tear, no words can heal a broken heart...," you can feel that glitter of hope when she hears the babys' cry. With the songs "Son of Man" and "Strangers Like Me", Phil tries to present the confusion and hardship of growing up in a world where everyone is so different from you. Phil strongly presents the determination and wonder in both these songs as you see Tarzan grow up into the man he becomes and falls in love for the first time. When the scene of them in the trees with the birds, you can feel the angst in Phil's voice representing the longing of Tarzan to understand what it is he is feeling. With "Trashing The Camp" version with 'N Sync, it could of been better though. This song was probably the downfall all in all of the album, making it gain a bad rep with some of Phil's fans. But he brings it all back with the song "You'll Be In My Heart" Whether people agree with it or not, Phil Collins sings wonderfully in this album in my opinion. If you can feel the emotions trying to be presented in the songs, the singer has done their job and Phil Collins certainly did this.

Phil Collins does a great job for Disney,

This album is great - everytime I listen to Two Worlds I get goosebumps - it is that good. Don't buy this album for the song with N'Sync - there are no words to the song they "sing". But if you love Phil Collins, and you liked Tarzan the movie you will LOVE this CD.

Disney's Epic Jungle Soundtrack,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tarzan (Audio CD)
In my personal opinion, this is the greatest modern Disney soundtrack around. To me it captured the atmosphere of "Tarzan" perfectly. Both Phil Collins and Mark Mancina did a wonderful job of harnessing the "wildness" of this film and put it to music. Collins has proven with this album that he has not lost a step. Channeling his inner "tribal" child, he cranked out some of the most memorable songs in Disney history as of late. "You'll Be In My Heart," "Son Of Man" and "Two Worlds" are epic pop tunes. They have definite staying power. My personal favorite, "Strangers Like Me," fits the film perfectly as Tarzan attempts to make sense of his new acquaintances in the jungle. Another wonderful tune is the film version of "Trashin' The Camp." This disc also contains a studio track of "Trashin' The Camp" performed by Collins and N'Sync, but it just isn't as fun as the film's version.
Mark Mancina guides the emotional rollercoaster of the film expertly with his score. My personal favorite is "The Gorillas." Of course, no album about Tarzan would be complete without his signature yell. You'll find it at the end of the album on the "Two Worlds" finale. If you enjoy tribal music, percussion, or simply a lot of well-choreographed noise, the "Tarzan" soundtrack will be a perfect additon to your collection. Highly recommended.

One of the best Phil Collins efforts ever,
By jasenao (Dothan, Alabama, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tarzan (Audio CD)
The Tarzan soundtrack is perfect for the movie. It has a lot of songs by one of the best singers ever, Phil Collins, including the major hit single, "You'll Be In My Heart." There are some other noteworthy songs such as "Strangers Like Me" which is almost as good as "You'll Be In My Heart" in my opinion, and "Two Worlds" is also a great song. Phil Collins even does a version of "Trashin' The Camp" with N'Sync. The Tarzan soundtrack also has a lot of scores from certain parts in the movie, which are well done and go along great with the songs. If you liked the Tarzan movie or if you're a Phil Collins fan, I recommend getting the Tarzan soundtrack. |
