The product description is for the DP-02 which is the hard disk version. The product code in the title is for the DP-02CF which is the Compact Flash version which is much cheaper. Don't buy this expecting to get a hard disk.

If you like digital, it's a nice unit,

First off, this unit DOES NOT HAVE a CD drive. It is the wrong description so buyer beware. It has a flash drive capablility. Don't know if a flash card will come with this unit because Tascam ran a special last year (2008) including a 1GB card but that offer expired in December 2008 so you'll have to check that out.
I returned the unit but only because I hate the digital recording sound. But, the unit itself was very nice. Took me a while to actually record something. I read the manual but it just got by me that you had to assign the input to a track to record from it. Anyhow, the sound was clear with no machine noise. Although the headphone jack did not deliver much volume. I guess you'll have to get amplified headphones for better monitoring. Also, I have an acoustic/electric guitar and it sounded pretty bad plugged into the input jack on it's own. I read a lot of reviews where people said they got preamps to improve sound on voice and instruments. I had it for a few days but, once I got the hang of it, I was able to do basic recordings with ease but, like I said, I hate the digital sound on the voice recordings.

Amazon seems to have a problem with describing this unit. I have contacted them about it. They removed the 40gb hard drive from the description but they did not remove the CD drive or the effects, neither of which are in this unit (DP-02CF). It's the DP-02 that has the CD drive, Effects and 40GB hard drive. The DP-02 is a more expensive unit.

I've owned a Tascam DP02-CF for over a year and it has been a good experience. I use the DP02-CF with an Alesis USB-8 mixer which allows me to mix 8 audio sources into the DP02-CFs 2 available recording channels. It works very well for live performances however, in the studio setting, only having 2 channels recording at once means you have to go back and record each part on its own. The DP02-CF lacks the bells and whistles of the HDD version however it has held up very well for me. I appreciate the quality Tascam put into this recorder. I have my own 'effects' that I use so I can do without them on the recording unit. What I wanted was a reliable multitrack recorder that easily works with my PC for dumping .wav file tracks for further editing and processing. I found it in the Tascam DP02-CF.

This is a GREAT Digital 8 Track best bang for the buck! Simple to use.. The CF format version is inexpensive & works beautifully! If you have your own effects, etc. you can pick a slightly used one up for $185 Do it!!!
