This product is amazing. It has one end that plugs into your Tascam recorder and then another end, and this is the amazing part, that has these 2 tines that you plug into these 2 slots in your wall...and voila, your Tascam recorder is able to use ELECTRICITY (!) to power it without the need for batteries! Imagine the possibilities of using electricity instead of having to change batteries every 8 hours. With electricity, you never have to change batteries at all! It's an amazing breakthrough and Tascam was able to bring it to you. Thanks, Tascam!

Tascam PSP520 Power Supply For Mpgt1,

This is a very nice little switching-type powersupply. Due to the fact that there is a full-length A/C power cord before the actual power supply unit, then there's the wire from the power supply to the recorder, I like the total working length of the combination of the two. You can get a nice distance from the A/C outlet and that's nice.
Most consumers are not aware of the differences in the design of power adapters. Just FYI, this power unit is capable of supplying 5 volts at a whopping 2 AMPS! Common little adapters you use for charging phones or running your IPod etc., have a current output of ten times LESS. As these adapters begin filling your wall sockets, people should get a little smarter about them. They can be misused and create safety hazzards. Start noticing the ratings on some of them. Most people look to see that the voltage matches their purposes (5VDC or 12VDC for example), but few people ever look to see the second number about what the CURRENT rating is. For example, 5VDC, 200ma, is common. So is 5VDC 20ma. You can always use higher "ma" ratings as long as the voltage is the same. That "ma" stands for "milli-amps", which is "thousanths of an amp". So, 200ma is the same as .2 AMPS. If you use a 20ma supply for something that needs 2A, you're going to blow the adapter. It can be a hazzard. Some people just throw up their hands in confustion. This is kid's stuff. 1ma = 1 milli-amp, or 1 thousanths of an amp. 1000ma = 1 amp. This TASCAM supply is capable of providing up to 2 Amps or 2000ma! Yet, it's light weight and relatively compact. This is because it uses a technology known as "switching power supply". Without getting into details, the unit contains some solid state components and toroid transformers that are lightweight. The little adapters you ordinarily use do not have these components but if you had an old-style adapter capable of the 2000ma (2 amps), it would be huge would not fit on a power strip very at all. (Bulky). That's why they have to utilize "switching" technology to produce the DC power. It costs more, thus the price. They are quite eloquent but now you know why it's designed with the power cord and looks much more professional than your basic adapter that plugs directly into the wall. It's a good unit and anywhere you need 5 volts and up to 2 amps of it, you can use this supply. Keep it around, even if you get rid of the recorder or whatever you use it for. All you must do to use it on other units is to be sure that you observe the voltage polarity. Most devices conform to this units configuration. Some DO NOT. So check it. This unit's (+) pole is the CENTER. The outside, exposed metal pole is the (-) negative. As long as you power devices needing less than 2Amps, you can use this device safely. KEEP IT around. CON: PRICE !! This is over 10% of the cost of the TASCAM recorder and too much for a switching 5VDC/2A supply. I should have shopped around for a less-expensive source of 5VDC/2A power but it is, in fact, a nice little supply. It should be priced under $20. The only "CON" to this review not related to the device itself is that this power supply should have been included with the TASCAM recorder. Ordinarily, for battery-operated devices, the A/C adapter is a true "OPTIONAL" unit. But, the TASCAM recorder DR-2D is such a power hog that you are lucky if you get even 2 hours operation on a set of double-A's. The fact that the power supply is capable of a hefty 2 amps gives clues that the recorder needs a lot of power. I usually change batteries every hour just so I don't lose power mid-session. The fact is that you really can't use the TASCAM recorder on batteries without running a big risk of interrupting the session to change batteries. (I have a wireless transmitter for my guitar for example, the same two batteries are good for 10:00 hours.) 1 or 2 hours is hardly what I classify as "battery operated" but rather batteries are more of an emergency source of power. For that reason, this supply should be in the box with the recorder not $25 extra.

This is what Teac/Tascam recommends as the power adapter for their CD-VT-2 vocal and instrument trainer so in the interest of saving batteries and also not running into trouble using an off-brand adapter, I shelled out the bucks for the offically recommended model.
Although expensive, it is obviously of high build quality: it is sturdy, heavy, and works fine with the instrument trainer. For the difference in price between this and a non-Tascam product, I think it is worth spending more for peace of mind.

Hey, its a power supply. It fits solidly, and works on both my tascam recorders. Needed for the dp-008 as it eats batteries up rather quickly.

The Tascam PSP520 power supply, 5 watt output, Really important to get the proper model for your equipment,...otherwise bad things happen, like smoke and stuff that results in broken equipment. I use this to power my DRO7 recorder. Terrific!

I use this power supply for my Tascam CDGT2 Portable CD Guitar Trainer because it loves to eat batteries. This is a nice, inexpensive option to keep my Tascam running when I am near a plug outlet ... otherwise I can run on batteries.
The adapter comes with a nice, long cord and comes with 2 pieces (like most laptop adapters with the transformer box). A great "optionalal" item for your Tascam product. My experience is only with the Tascam Guitar Trainer. Please make sure that this adapter is compatible with your device before purchase. Have fun!!

Although the price is a little bit higher but it has the best quality. It is not the same as other name brands that you will feel it hot after pluging it in about several minutes. I was in the transformer business long time ago and I know what is GOOOOOOOD !!

If you are thinking to buy this AC adapter to use with Tascam DR-05, forget about it. I was persuaded by Amazon to buy both together, as both are shown in the section "Frequently Bought Together", but this is a bad mistake (and Amazon didn't fix it yet; on 08/21/2011 still shows the pair: [...])! I returned it (from Brazil), explaining this misfortune, and they did the reimbursement. What a shame Amazon!
